Just gotten to the first mission for Michelle's boss and its one of those annoying Car chases, which I hate because I could just blow the guys head off in the cutscene if Niko was actually smart and plus the AI driving if it wants is virtually perfect despite and am stuck with the so/so driving system.

Still fun though so far game is around 8.5 out of 10

That's because the driving scenes up until a point are all scripted.
For a game that's open world, it's got more triggers than CoD4 and Half Life 2 combined.

You don't have to be perfect when driving. You just have to be close enough that the guy you're chasing doesn't leave your radar. You don't even have to follow them down the same streets. Just stay close enough until the cutscene hits (although I don't know if all of them have cutscenes) or until they crash.

^ Not all of them have cutscenes. But in my experience, the chases that don't (where you have to catch them and kill 'em while driving) are often easier because they usually drive slower.

I feel your pain. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you hate this mission, you're gonna get really mad a little later into the game.

I think, for people who are struggling with the chases, having a look at the strategy guide or GameFAQs is in order. Those will tell you in advance whether you're supposed to be just keeping up or trying to kill the guys.

I'll give you a little tip on one of them. There is a mission called Dining Out where you have to go in to a restaurant and kill a South Korean counterfeiter. If you aren't lucky, he'll drive off in a car after you've killed his goons and you'll have to chase after him.

The thing is, though, you can go 'round back before you first enter the restaurant and shoot out the tyres on his car first. When he tries to flee in the car he won't get very far.

Sometimes, I have to laugh at my own stupidity, even though at the time it was very frustrating. For example, last night I'm doing the mission where you have to chase a helicopter in a car (for those of you who haven't done this mission yet, it's not as bad as it sounds.) Anyway I tried this mission and got killed trying to jack the helicopter. The next try, I crash the copter trying to land.

I go back several times and I kept getting killed by the goons guarding the helicopter. Well I get the bright idea to ram them with my car EXCEPT somehow or another I went airborne and ended up in the water with no way to get back up to where they were.

So I come back with another bright idea. I'll just shoot a RPG up there among the goons and that will take care of them. It did. And the force of the blast knocked over the helicopter. Which eventually exploded and killed me while I'm standing there dumbfounded trying to figure out how to tip over the helicopter.

DOH!

I risked a wanted level doing it, but I used a sniper rifle to take out the first two guards from across the street and then rocket launchered the helicopter.

That might be a different mission, because in the mission I was playing, the goal is to hijack the helicopter. If I could have just blown it up, that would have been simple enough with the RPG.

When I finally beat this mission I figured out that I needed to get out of the car much sooner and take them on, on foot. (Drive by's ain't my thing.) Then it was just a matter of flying the helicopter and landing it, which suprised me because it was considerably more difficult than I recall in previous incarnations of GTA.

Well no it wasn't that bad except for some reason I was having a hell of a time taking out the guys guarding the helicopter (see above.) I'm not sure why they were presenting so much of a challenge to me this time out.

And yeah I've heard bits and pieces about chopper and I'm NOT looking forward to that.

That helicopter hijack mission is irritating me. I follow the correct controls to fly the helicopter, yet end up falling right into the water next to the landing pad.

Yeah it's not intuitive at all. I had to learn by trial and error, the little pop-ups that told you what controls to use aren't very helpful.

I dunno... the only time I got angry was when I was doing the "fly under the bridges" achievement. I think the civie chopper handles pretty well. It's sadly easier to fly a chopper than it is to drive some of the vehicles.

^That first problem is easily solved - buy a PS3. No stupid, worthless achievements to worry about. :p

I didn't have any trouble with that mission. I simply drove up right next to the helicopter and jacked it. Sure the goons were shooting at me, but like every mission I started out with full health and armor. It was fun that way because as I tried to take off, two of the closest goons grabed onto the heli's skids and held on till I was about 200 feet in the air and they finally lost there grip and fell back to earth. It was pretty funny to watch.

Sniper rifle helps out a lot when you need to kill a lot of people and you're the one to initiate the fight. And some of those missions are best done during the day.

With the helicopter hijack mission, I just drove right on in, ran over a few guys, and then hopped into the chopper. It was pretty hilarious, actually, because two guys grabbed on to the landing bars (or whatever they're called) and held on for a while before finally falling off.

You'll have trophies. ;)

This is a trade off. Sometimes it's easier to play at night because there's less traffic and fewer cops around.
