And yet another disappointing ENT episode that doesn't deliver anything of originality.
When will people stop mistaking the throwing of small bones to the cognescenti - Coombs, Hertzler, Auberjonois - for intricate story-lines, character development, risk and consequences. Nothing that was said in the story had the force of passion. While I'm to emphathise with the Advocate's struggle in this increasingly militaristic society - I cannot for first of all, I know the Empire will grow in fact more corrupt (see Ezri's speech to Worf), and secondly, the militaristic Empire is the only one we have come to know through 30+ years of Star Trek and it is the one we expect. And in itself it does have nuances, it has been fleshed out for us. Now we are to turn our back's on that perception? To what? Klingons excited over holodecks - "I can see my house!".
It was the standard court-case done over and over. A small moment of common bond between Archer and the Advocate - a nice touch. A hint of deeper meaning, future relationships - which will someday came to naught of course. The Klingons will only develop into greater enemies of the un-formed Federation. Maybe Archer's blundering in leads to the strain. I dunno. All I know is that this show continues to disappoint rather than excite me.
