Good Things

I think this time of year can be really difficult for some people, whether because of personal loss, bad memories, not celebrating the holidays, whatever. So let's have some good things in this thread! They can be traditions or memories related to this time of year or anything else. Things that you're grateful for, things you're looking forward to next year, etc. No negativity! Or, minimal negativity anyway.

I'm grateful to still have my entire family in good health and good spirits. We've been going through a lot of difficult things and undoubtedly will in the future, but right now there is no crisis and I'm so grateful for that. My own health has improved as well and that's no small thing. I'm also excited about my future. I've been doing far better in classes than I expected and I should finish up a degree in June. I also love the family I have with my husband and cat. Some of you guys may remember me starting a thread around this time last year about getting a cat .... well we did and I couldn't adore him more!

Lastly, while I don't love all the people here all the time, I am grateful to know most of you. I don't always comment on everyone's posts, I might need to disappear every now and again, but you all add something to this board and I've learned a lot from you. No one goes ignored in Misc., at least not by me.

Anyone else have cheery thoughts on their own lives, or a cheery message for the rest of us?

Well, 2010 has been proving to be a complete waste of time. I have in fact made negative progress in life by having to move back to my old job.

However, I am back living with my old college roommate, and we're in the process of looking for a new house, and I just got a call yesterday about a job opportunity. I'm hoping that life kicks things into gear in the next couple weeks so that 2010 doesn't become a total loss.

Also, I bought myself a bunch of Christmas presents on amazon during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which have been slowly trickling in through the mail, so that's fun! My new Flip camcorder should be coming today!

Today was my last day of work at the children's centre and I'm going to be unemployed for the next few years while I study law. It's something I've been thinking of doing for about a year but was afraid to make the move, mostly for financial reasons. So money's going to be very tight over the next few years but it'll be worth it.

I am lucky enough to have been reminded recently that I have at least two people who care about me, and who were good enough to help me out of an impossible situation. Having felt isolated and misunderstood for a while, it's quite a wonderful feeling. When you reach out a hand and there's someone there to help you up, it is the sweetest most comforting thing. :)

But the year is not over yet!

I love those! Hope you have fun with it!

I'm really glad you're going for it. Best of luck!

What a wonderful feeling! I'm sorry you've been going through difficulties but I am glad you have such great support.

Sounds like you have something planned!

I started doing some volunteer work this year, which I hope to continue with and expand my availability in the new year. I'm also getting a Kindle in the new year. I know I can't offer much, but in the spirit of this thread, here's a video. Some don't like the song and find it cheesy, but it's the message that's important.

I have just entered individual psychotherapy in the Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy, the only therapy specifically designed for and proven effective with chronic depression. My results pending....

I also found out yesterday I am finally an officially licensed pharmacy technician in the state of California.

Tuesday I am seeing the last ever performance of Pink Floyd's The Wall by its primary creator Roger Waters.

i'm trying very hard to see the silver lining but i just can't find it.

It is snowing now. :) It snowed a little a few days ago but I didn't see it and was gone before I woke up later in the day.

In order: good luck! Congratulations! and wow, I am so jealous

My mother pleasantly surprised me yesterday, and that hasn't happened in about a decade. It must be the apocalypse (I'm a little scared, frankly). I was so happy, I felt like laughing and laughing all night long. :D

I've got plenty of good stuff to write about -but after I wrote about it the whole post disappeared so you'll have to wait till tomorrow when I'll try to re-create it!

Meanwhile: here's something good: for many days now I've had to climb up on a cupboard and then onto the windowsill to reach for the top of my blinds whenever I wanted to change the setting (close them in the evening and open them in the morning) because that little gizmo where the rod you normally do that sort of thing with broke... Well, today I found my last tube of cyanoacrylate and fixed the thing *does little happy-dance* so tomorrow I wont have to do the big climb before I have any coffee. :)

I reconnected with someone who meant a great deal to me many years ago. I thought I would never hear from her again and I am grateful to have been proven wrong.

I have had a positive experience here in Japan and at my current job. I am not sure it will last beyond the end of the school year, but it has already impacted me a lot and am definitely glad that I made the choice to come here.

I'm in a great relationship, my cost of living is about to plummet to something reasonable for the first time in my adult life, and I have a newborn niece to coo over.

I'm so happy things are looking up for you, Bears. I know you've been dealing with a high cost of living for quite awhile now so this is all very happy news. :)

It’s so good to read of good news for so many. I’m happy that I passed the CA Bar in 2010. I found my BAR number online and expect my Bar card and license soon, so I’m guessing it wasn’t all a mistake or joke. ;) Here’s hoping that next year, I can say I’m teaching. If not, I’ll do something else.

Anytime you have a question or advice about studies, let me know. I helped a lot of people get through law school.
