Giving STO Another Try

Well got the free winter event ship, my thoughts, meh, it is a very bland ship, the detail on the model is meh, i think it needs some work to make it look less bland. Lol

The free ship, when the graphic artists fell. Ha

Yeah I think STO is generally on autopilot until they figure out its fate with the Embracer-DECA-Cryptic merger.

I would have thought that maybe CBS would take it as a part of their own game division, but with the whole potential Warner Bros Discovery-Paramount Global merger also going on, it looks like the future of the entire Trek franchise may be in a bit of an uncertain state - it might all go to hell in a handbag.

The 50th anniversary was pretty lame when the Viacom-CBS-Paramount merger went down. It’s likely going to be another lackluster anniversary when the 60th rolls around. Just all a matter of bad timing, I guess… :(

They've already experienced the Embracer layoffs and actually have job postings up again . (I'm sure everyone laid off was in a higher salary range; and now the new hires will be paid at a lower start rate.

And if you look at the last few patch notes, STO isn't on 'autopilot' per se - it's moving into maintenance mode. You'll see a lot of lockbox content; and we'll even still continue to get some small new mission content, but it will be more spread out over the year and be less than in previous years.

It'll eventually get down to maybe one or two new missions a year.

And CBS/Paramount have their own financial issues. They have a lot of debt, and Sheri Redstone (who controls 80%) is looking to sell her stake to WB/Discovery; so if the merger goes through (it's still 2 years or so away IF they come to terms to go forward with it); you'll probably see major layoffs at CBS/Paramount as David Zaslav 'trims the fat'.

I think they also gimped the dil rewards after you complete the 20 days, as i don't recall it ever starting at below 8000, but this one starts at 2500 dil.

There is a one time account sale of the 3 T6 ships token pack that you can either gift or use on your own account, which allows you grab 3 T6 zen store ships for account wide use, righr now at 4500....but it is time limited, so only 2 days left.

Funny enough i had claimed two ships from the 13th anni bundle last year and was looking at the escort recently as well, so this ship just saved me a 100% T6 token, which i can now keep to see what drops in the 14th anni bundle. :-)

Todays free gift is 4 ship slots. :)

Yesterday's was 2 free tech upgrades, you have an hour (or 2?) to grab them before the next giveaway goes up.
