Giving STO Another Try

I really enjoyed this episode, and we at last get some new plasma weapons, plus......i do not want to spoil anything, but if you can, do the mission in the 1701-A, it will be worth it. ;)

^^I did it in the unused Matt Jeffries 1701 and now it is canon that the ship was in TMP. :-)

Plus i like the fact the reward gives you a box of 4 plasma weapons, so you can basically kit your ship in weapons on one play through....oh and let me just add the audio, sound effects and music are fantastic in this episode, and i usually play STO with some TOS music via spotify, but this new episode music and audio is top notch, so make sure you have the music on in the game, the end cutscene will thank you for it. ;)

They got the Blaster Beam for the game:

(The Blaster Beam being the thing that gives V'Ger its distinctive sound: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Craig_Huxley)

^^^Perfect for the pics........first thing i noticed was the v'ger sound was back, and all new stuff. :)

Hi all. I have played STO on and off since 2014, got back into it a year ago and made a new engineering character. I would say the moving of the level cap doesn't hinder the gameplay as much as others are saying. I use a Free-to-play phaser build on a tier 5 Galaxy Class and it holds up very well even in Advanced STOs. Using 2 omni-directional phasers, phaser boost consoles and the sol defense set from completing story missions. The missions themselves are still very combat heavy but that's the nature of the game so if you're not into that then STO probably isn't for you. But I love the ST actor voice cameos even if some of the plot points are nuts! :bolian: I would say that being part of a decent fleet will help out a lot, and grinding for fleet modules is the most tedious task in the game, and the R&D element needs a total rework :barf2: Just managed to bag myself a Fleet Galaxy 'Refit' (3 nacelle AGT) and its unique abilities almost make you invincible in PVE content. All MMOs will be a grind-fest to a degree. The only big gripe I have with the game is the daily limit on refining dilithium... 8K a day??? (plus another measly 500 from your fleet) That's Dumb. Happy trekking! :)

My third time installing this since SWTOR popped and kept popping my MMO cherry over the past decade, and the first time I've made it past the toon creation screen. Around which level is endgame, and when does group content come into play? I mostly like soloing content either way.

Do all eras catch up to galactic present day or is that just TOS? How annoying is the mission design where you can't log after clearly loading a new section of the episode (like a space to ground combat transition)

^^^^You can play this entire games content solo withput any issues, you can complete it without spending a penny, and every era comes up to the same present one, but there is nothing stopping you playing the entire game in the Tos era ships, uniforms and weapons if you want to.....i have two toons kitted out in the Tos era, and as you can see from the two pics i posted above, you can play any mission with whatever ship you want assuming you have have access to it.

And if you start it now you have plenty of time to complete the first of 5 events that will run over the next 11 months to reach the goal of 3500 points, which will reward you with either 1 T6 Lockbox ship, 2 T6 100% off c store ships, or 1500 lobi crystals which you can use to by again either ships of gear from the lobi store......and of course there will also be the summer and winter events which again will reward you 2 free T6 ships and gear, and more smaller events pop up also over the year, it is a very generous game when it cones to free content for the sake of logging in once a day for 10 mins to complete the daily......

At the end of whatever character tutorial you play, you're put into 2409 <--- The year the game 'starts'. As you play through mission content (and play through the Iconian War missions arc; you'll then be in 2411.

But, as stated by the poster above, you can wear whatever era costumes you like that your character owns, and fly any ship you own on your account be it TOS, TOS Film era, TNG, TNG film era, JJ Trek era, or the current Star Trek streaming era ships that they have in game atm.

As for 'endgame' - if you really want to compete in the DPS race, you'll need to be Level 65; have a decent set of space and ground boffs enabled, have Ground and Space Traits leveled to Tier 5 or 6 so you can gain access to the Space and Ground traits they provide, and also start doing endeavours and selecting the Space and Ground Endeavor bonuses. You'll also want to start unlocking T6 Ship Traits and slotting those too.
^^^
That's all the aspects of STO's 'endgame' and you start being able to unlock some of these things at levels 50 - 63. (you do get stuff at 64 and 65; but at 63 you have access to and have unlocked and are able to start tre various grinds described.

If you're just want to play group content and don't care about DPS performance; all group contact is unlocked by Level 65 - and you can do the Normal or Advanced versions just fine without Traits slotted. DPS in STO is only needed if you want to succeed in the 'Elite' versions of the Group content.

Just in case anyone missed it, the second part of the yearly event is now live for the next 14 days, gaining you a possible 700 points towards that 3500 needed to claim one of the grand prizes....plus a bonus prize of a Voth exosuit module.

I'm playing again. This time on a PC.
Very much enjoying the Romulan storyline.

The game seems much more dynamic and interesting that it used to, even only 1-2 years ago.

They remastered a number of the missions for the newer-gen consoles and faster PC graphics cards a couple years back. The Romulan Azure Nebula was one of the ones I distinctly recall them rebuilding. Yes, many of them look a lot nicer now.

The mission is out
Wow!
they brought in a Tholian character from the IDW Star Trek Year Five comics

I tried getting into this on the PS5 (PS4 version since there is no native PS5 version) and its just so dense I couldn't get into it.

^^^I know the consoles are somewhat behind the PC when it comes to events, but you might get something when its starts on console, which console are you playing it on just out of curiosity?
