Generations Observations

The Shatnerverse books show TNG (Farpoint- Nemesis) to have been always been garbage. Long live Shatnerverse!

The Enterprise-E is a brilliant translation of the Phase II tv series Enterprise. Much better than the Excelsior hack job that became the Enterprise-D. Long live Enterprise-E

The Ent-D wasn't supposed to look like a fighter jet. It was the Federation flagship and had to look both powerful and dignified.

I do not see any of the Phase II Enterprise in the Ent-E, just a warship. ome of those Phase II drawings were just crappy, in an effort to look vastly superior technologically, they lost a lot in translation.

I'm glad they blew up the ENT-D. I always thought it was one of the fugliest starships ever.

Sacrilege! ;)

Still, I agree that the D was designed to be large, powerful, and elegant. I don't find anything wrong with it, and I definitely don't find it's replacement with the Enterprise-E (while I don't dislike the E) logical.

I will admit the D didn't look much like a warship, but it looked very graceful. And Galaxy-class ships can fight decently...

"Can" is the operative word. It all depends on the orders given. "Hmm, that dinky Bird of Prey can shoot through our shields. Even though I have umpteen phaser banks and a bazillion torpedoes, I think I should just let it beat the crap out of us for a while."

Thanks Riker.

They couldn't figure out how to get the shields fixed in time... Then there was the Odyssey... And the Yamato...
But there were the ships that fought against the Dominion... They lasted longer than the Mirandas/ Reliant...

They couldn't figure out to simply rotate the shield frequencies? Riker, Worf, Geordi, and Data are all smarter than that.

If Geordi's looking at the screen without knowing Ugly and Uglier are looking through the VISOR, then they can simply adjust...

"Hmmm. Everytime we change our shield frequency the seem to still be able to get through. Maybe they somehow know when we change them? I wonder if the guy who was just over there and tortured by them might be connected to this."

And why was Geordi back to work right away anyway? He had just been tortured by Klingons, he dosen't get a day off?!

And it's till pretty damn absurd no one FOUND the bug in the first place.

No, sorry, it's just shitty writing.

^^Everybody always remarks how Shatner acts circles around Stewart during the Cabin scene.

I liked the cabin scene, it was a worthy meeting of the two captains, one legendary and the other well respected. It was a moment of deep introspection where both of them were able to see the need for action and cooperation.

I was always of the opinion that the Ent-D should mop up a squadron of those Klingon Birds of Prey. it was superior in every respect.

^All things being equal, of course. For the Duras sisters, it was sheer dumb luck which quickly evaporated.

^ The problem is, I just don't think their dumb luck with the shield frequency bit should even be enough. The Bird of Prey hardly packs a major punch, even when the Enterprise's shields are down. We see this demonstrated by just how long the battle is able to go on without the Enterprise being destroyed.

If Riker had actually ordered a continuous full spread of phasers and photon torpedoes, the Bird of Prey should have been toast long before they could do any serious damage. Instead, during their entire pummeling, Riker orders them to fire phasers exactly once. At no other time do they return fire.

That is sloppy and inexcusable.

B'Etor: "That is a Galaxy class starship, we are no match for them!"

I think that says it all, really. It was a contrived way to blow up a ship that didn't need blowing up. And then, when they kill Lursa and B'Etor, we have to have the same damn explosion from TUC? Gimme a break... :scream:

Don't get me started on the BoP shot being reused. That's a touchy subject with me around here (I don't see the problem with them reusing it.)

But I agree, "That's a Galaxy-Class Starship, we are no match for them."

"They're probably just trying to figure out if a 20-year-old Bird of Prey is any match for the Federation flagship."

And then it goes and gets blown up.

^ For what it's worth, in reply to your earlier post, I didn't mind the idea of destroying the D so much. But I do agree it was stupid to have it be destroyed by a tiny BOP, particularly with the TUC explosion reused. I wish they'd been able to give the Duras sisters a specific vessel as was originally planned.
