Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I'm probably going to be one of the outliers here. I ended up liking season 5 for the most part. I enjoyed my last time with the crew of Discovery. However I do have strong opinions on a few things. I didn't like L'ak and Moll in the beginning but by the final episode I kind of was rooting for them a bit and liked Moll, just sad that Michael didn't use the technology to bring L'ak back. I was hoping they would pull that at the last minute but nup, no happy ending for Moll. Sadness for our star crossed lovers.

The rest maybe I'll shove in the finale thread, copy this post there with additional stuff. But as far as I am concerned it was good. I plan to rewatch the full series at a later date.

What episode was it where they had a bunch of starfleet communicators sitting on a table for some reason? I think it was season 4.

I remember they had the SNW communicator there before Season 1 had even aired.

Edit: Found it, at the start of The Galactic Barrier

I never would have picked Kovich to have been Daniels from Enterprise. That got me totally by surprise

I had that person pegged as someone new we had not seen before, before that reveal.
You and me both.

But to quote Senator Palpatine of Naboo, "a surprising choice, to be sure, but a welcome one."

To be honest from my perspective of... not really being a Discovery fan, Season 5 was absolutely one of the better ones. I think S4 was Peak Discovery... S3 came SO close and blew it on the reveal/resolution to an epic proportion, somewhat so as well with S2 (S2 from the like, the beginning I figured "Somehow, someway, it's Burnham, because of course it's Burnham.)

I think S5 is number two for me for DSC. I liked S5 in that it felt... watchable. It even almost kind of felt like Star Trek, which was odd for Discovery, because it usually didn't. It normally felt like a cheap imitation of someone trying to kind of a generic sci-fi show but slapped a few Trek words in it.

S4, S5, S3, S2 (and then somewhere in the distant, distant, last place.) S1.

As someone who is a fan, I'll back you up and say this is also how I look at S3, S4, and S5.

Season 4 was absolutely Discovery's peak as a show.

Season 5. Eh, I dunno. Even moreso in retrospect, it feels like it was just going through the motions. There was never a compelling antagonist, the stakes felt artificial, the final reveal was a little underbaked. There was some nice character work along the way, but it felt like a pretty perfunctory season of TV - something being written because they needed another season, not because anyone had an amazing, compelling idea.

Also, it would have been much, much better if the season was mostly just Michael, Book, and Rayner on a shuttle, hunting down Moll and Lak. There was really very little narrative reason for the majority of the cast to be involved in the story for the final season, unfortunately.

The Season 5 soundtrack is out on Spotify and such
I came here to post this. I knew I enjoyed the music but now after isolating these 55 tracks (55 tracks!!?) I'm completely enamored. One of the best. Happy to see it pop up on some top 10 lists.

It's hard to beat the ending of season 4, but overall season 5 was a favorite, and the finale was so well realized.

I have to put "hard to beat" within the confines to discussing Discovery, and if that's the case, then... yes. In a grand scope... not really, and I did actually chuckle out loud that the resolution to S4 was... ACTUALLY the memetic "Burnham cries at it". Still, overall S4 was good.

S5 was too, although I found the finale to be a bit underwhelming. I can't entirely blame the show, they didn't originally know that was going to be the series finale.

I have to say I really don't hate the 32nd century world. I do wish we got to explore it a bit more. I guess we will get the chance in SFA.
