Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

No, but it's a fait accompli. She works there so it's a pretty fair bet. But at this stage nothing's 100% set in stone other than the timeframe.

The signs were in the episode I mentioned (dunno the ep.title sorry).
Pretty insipid stuff by any standard or am I alone in thinking that?

A fairly standard "people who don't get along are stranded and must learn to work together to survive plot"? You'll find that all over entertainment, including Star Trek (Galileo Seven, The Ascent, Last Mission). Other than featuring cadets, it says nothing about an Academy show.

Yeah but it does about the writers and their ambitions for the show.
Look,it wouldn’t have taken much to elevate the episode...how about if after all their tribulations the cadets failed to gel as a team,Tilly sadly tells them that to be in Starfleet you have to be more than just a cool backstory.
Anyhow as I said I would love to be wrong but given the cloyingly formulaic state of TV...

Yeah, not very Star Trek to fail at "gelling". Positive. Up beat. Aspirational. Team work. All that stuff. How can one judge the ambitions for the show base on one episode of a different show? Do we know if this particular writer is involved with the new show? I only see three writers for the show on MA, including Tawney Newsome (Mariner) from Lower Decks. I assume producer Noga Landau will also write.

This. Just this.

Assumption reigns supreme.

I didn't like that episode, but I'm not going to judge the concept a failure just because Discovery didn't pull it off.

It's like...I dunno...not seeing Into the Spiderverse because you didn't like the DC interpretation of the Multiverse in The Flash.

Hate to break it to you, but every century we talk about in this franchise is all pretend.
Not sure why you think you're breaking anything to me?!

I hate to break it to you, but you need to pay more attention. Ok, I'll spell it out for you.

My response was a direct reply to a poster who thought the century would improve the Academy series. So, I intentionally called out the pretend nature of the century. I don't know if the Academy series will be good or not, but the pretend century it's set it won't make or break it.
