Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Really disappointed about what they did with The Breen. They were one of my favourite races for being so mysterious with the refrigeration suits and the untranslated language yet still intimidating.

Discovery did a Breen romance?? And The Breen don't even need their suits?? Which are no longer refrigerated?? And they can talk normally after all?? And then we learn no new facts about them that set them apart from other races.

Just why.

And The Breen don't even need their suits??
DS9 sort of hinted at that when Weyoun described the Breen homeworld as beautiful and Damar asked "then why do they wear the suits?"
Which are no longer refrigerated??
They're still refrigerated, that was stated multiple times throughout the season. Indeed, when L'ak was being treated in sickbay, they had to turn the temperature down so low everyone else was dressed in winter clothing.
And they can talk normally after all??
I find it curious there are so many complaints about Disco doing this. After all, the novels did the exact same thing, and everyone loved it there.

Because complaining about Disco is cool /s

But seriously if the novels did it why complain?

Also if their homeworld is lovely why the suits?
I got the impression it was to allow them to stay in a semi liquid, translucent state. If they go back to completely solid, which would allow them to remove the suit, it was considered a societal taboo, as being something less than ideal.

I always took this as a misdirect. Maybe my fault?

Fair enough. I watched the series sped up and appear to have missed this.

I haven’t read the novels personally but I think I would have been disappointed with that too.

I didn’t mean to complain for the sake of complaining. I didn’t care for most of Discovery but I’ve also accepted most modern Trek isn’t for me. The old shows are still there whatever they make. The Breen changes just stood out as the most glaring and I hadn’t seen any comments on it yet (though I don’t frequent Discovery discussions that often).

EDIT: Missing word

Rewatching Discovery Season 2 last episode, why didn't they transport the Admiral Cornwall to escape the bomb blast?

Wasn't there a line of dialogue about a transporter beam being blocked by something? They wouldn't be able to get a lock on her?

I vaguely recall some reference to transporter interference because of the torpedo or something, but regardless, what it really comes down to was they wanted to write Cornwell off the show, so of course there is No Way to save her.

Why? Developing a legacy race, making not every member of it being one note, and doing so in a far grander, big budget fasion. If anything they enriched the Breen, who were mostly a footnote before.

Rewatching Discovery, I'm on season 4, episode 1.
I agree with the Federation President, Burnham at this stage of her career, is not the best captain.
