OK update time:
I put in brand new power supply and brand new graphics card. Wasn't taking any chances it wasn't the thing causing my issues and now everything seems to be working as it's supposed to. Have tried a couple of the games that gave me issues but it seems to be working as intended. So for now things seem happy.
I actually think it's both that had gone bad because I took my power supply apart and inside there was some melted plastic thing with a long stringy thing and one of the capacitors had brown stuff on it which didn't look right as if it was starting to leak.
Is there some sacred thing with putting a PC together that you have to cut yourself at least once on some random part? I cut my finger pushing the graphics card into the PCI slot. Seems to happen at least once on every hardware build I do.
Anyway so far so good.... Fingers crossed.
