Yes indeed! I have parts leftover from the upgrade, and I'm going to build another tower, and find someone who needs a good computer and give it to them. I figure I should pass on my good fortune to others. That one will last you a while.![]()
Yep, stock Wraith cooler here, too. Nice and quiet! The Ryzen 5 2600 is just ridiculous. I paid the same price for the motherboard and processor what it costs right now just for the CPU itself. I hope you snag a great deal on that 2600X! It looks a bit pricier than what I got, but I'm sure the performance upgrade is worth it.I've got a 2200G as my desktop machine now and it is a LOT faster than the Athlon 5350, runs Linux Mint 19.1 on the 5.0.x.x kernel, for a general purpose desktop that chip is really awesome, the on chip graphics card too, it chews up everything I throw at it without the slightest problem.
I'm using the stock Wraith Stealth cooler that came with it and it is quiet enough although in that respect the old Athlon wins since it has a passive heatsink.
My game machine will get an update as well and I am going for a Ryzen 2600X as well, or maybe a 2700X depending how much prices are going to fall after the 3000 series comes out.![]()
If you're upgrading from an FX chip to a Ryzen, you'll need an AM4 motherboard, and DDR4 RAM, too, so keep that in mind. The next step up from an FX-6300 would be a Ryzen 3 1200, but for a little more you can get a Ryzen 3 2200G, which is a sizable step up in performance. What's equal to an AMD FX6300 in Ryzen, upgrade time may happen at the end of the year.

Changing the motherboard will cause Windows 10 to become deactivated because a new motherboard usually means a new computer (according to Microsoft). This is easily solved by retyping the original Win10 serial key on the activation page. Aside from that, yeah, you can keep everything else.No problem I'm aware I'll need a new board and ram but this one's been going since 2015 with 32gig DDR3 and an FX 6300 with a Radeon R9 380 4gig. I assume I can keep my video card and hard disks and not change windows too much.

Serial key, to quote Sam Beckett "oh boy"
My windows was a digital download when it was free. This is gonna be fun. The digital download version doesn't give you a key but activates via a digital license.
This freeware program will find your Windows 10 product key, in whatever form it exists:

I'm pretty sure all or most Microsoft products have a product key nowadays - not sure why.Why does Internet Explorer have a product key?
From what I can see it seems to be a case made for watercooling and less for air cooling, and with that glass all around you should at least install everything with blinky RGB in 12 gazillion colours..
Fans with molex connectors are fine, you just can't change the RPM unless you get have a fan controller.
