Games you wish were still continued...

Sonic the Hedgehog as a 2D platformer.

I know that there have been games made for the GBA and DS that continue this, and I've bought them and enjoyed them, but Sonic Team is so focused on 3D Sonic that it is really killing the franchise. They strike out way more than they hit a home run. Generations was great, in my opinion, but they took a few steps back with Lost World and Sonic Boom, which I never even played because of its negative reputation. I'm glad that Sega has come out and admitted that their recent Sonic games haven't been that great, but that doesn't mean a return to form.

A non-Jedi followup to Dark Forces.

I never could warm up to the 3 followups to Dark Forces. Once they introduced the Jedi storyline I sort of lost interest. They were fun, but the story of Dark Forces was so much more interesting. A simple story of the Rebels vs the Empire. No Jedi or Dark Jedi or Sith. Plus they accomplished so much with the old school graphic engine. The game really felt like Star Wars to me.

I would like to see more of the classics from my youth brought back. The old Bard's Tale series, most of the Sierra games like King's Quest, anything Zork, hell, rugs like the old SSI Gold Box games would be great. I also have very found memories playing X-Wing and Wing Commander.

The old Bard's Tale series,

It's happening.

King's Quest,

Already out.

anything Zork,

Nothing like this going on, sadly. :(

the old SSI Gold Box games

I don't know what about them specifically appealed to you, but we are living in a golden age of RPGs these days.

X-Wing and Wing Commander.

Games like Freelancer and DarkStar One (both admittedly rather old) scratch the story-based space combat game itch. Elite: Dangerous came out not that long ago but, like the original Elite, isn't much for story.

There definitely is a serious lack of story-driven, single-player space combat games, at least the kind where you are first-person and flying your own ship around.

Well... except the entries in *this* every year, all of which are playable. Admittedly, they aren't Zork (although there are some that take place in that universe), but they do continue and expand of the legacy of Infocom's interactive fiction games.

I've found them to be excellent timekillers when paired with an app like Twisty on a smartphone. :techman:

"They aren't Zork" is kinda what disqualifies them. ;)

Or so you'd THINK! [/Vizzini] ;)

Yes, okay - conceded. But almost all of the Infocom games had *something* in them that linked them to some degree to either the Zork series or the Enchanter series - which were linked to each other. So it's hard to say which of the games are or aren't in the Zork universe. And much of the modern IF continues that.

Believe me - I would like a new straight up "Zork" game, too. But with the IP in limbo, I think the output from the competitions may be as close as we'll see for a while, at least.

Definitely. I miss 2D Sonic so bad. Sonic Lost World is ok, but I like the 2D games better.

Ace Combat

It's probably not really dead, but it feels dead. Maybe it can get its mojo back next time it swings around?

MYST

Not a ghost of a chance, but it'd be nice to see one. Myst was one of my earliest gaming experiences (the other being DOOM, funny enough), and Riven was quite frankly, a masterpiece. It's got a spiritual successor in the form of Obduction, though, so go team.

Crazy Taxi

That shit was fun.

3 game series I wish were continued... HL3 CONFIRMED YOU GUYS.

Monkey Island - MI3 was my first Lucasarts adventure game and I have for the most part enjoyed every game in the series. I had hoped that Telltale would do a second season of Tales of Monkey Island, but that was not to be. Also now that Disney owns it I'm not sure what the chances are of it coming back since they have their own comedy pirate franchise.

Freespace - Great arcade space sim. FS2 left us with questions and I want to know more.

Homeworld - Playing the remasters just got my juices flowing for the series again. would love to go back.

Sins of a Solar Empire - It was basically a 3D version of one of my favourite RTS, Conquest: Frontier Wars. I would love a sequel and one with a SP campaign. Would love to see a C:FW sequel (there was a cancelled xpac for it) too in fact.

WH40K: Dawn of War - I enjoyed this series a lot. Love to see it return, throw in a bit of Empire at War and have orbital combat as well.

Birth of the Federation with ground and air combat as well as space combat, space combat in 3D (similar to Homeworld), a "real" galactic map as well as random maps, space and planetary exploration puzzle missions (similar to the Star Trek adventure games) as DLC, experts (generals, admirals, administrators, scientists, and technocrats similar to Master of Orion 2, more playable races (add the Kazon, Borg, Xindi, and Dominion perhaps with suppression of those not liked).

I was thinking about Masters of Orion the other day. It's the first PC game I remember playing, and it brings back fond memories. The second was pretty good, too, but I was on to other things by then like Warcraft and Age of Empires, and it didn't strike such a chord as the first.

While I never did get around to playing the third one (and it's my understanding that perhaps that's for the best,) I'd like to see the series get an update.

There is a Master of Orion remake in development. It's going to be shit, but the series is getting an update.
