Games you wish were still continued...

I'll see that and raise you "Star Wars in general".

I'll raise you LucasArts in general. I think Disney lost an opportunity when it closed the studio. Then again, I'm very glad the name isn't attached to mobile crap.

With the new movies nearing release, you'd really think there would be more of an effort in making new games for both PC and consoles. When the Prequel Trilogy was nearing release, the market was already starting to get flooded by new releases set in the new timeframe, and with the new movies moving the timeline forward, there's a new opportunity for some games to take advantage of that.

But at most, we'll likely get a new Lego trilogy. It's a sign of the times. I'm kind of perplexed at Disney. They're one of the most influential tie-in producers. Yet in terms of gaming, they seem frustratingly relaxed. With LucasArts as a brand, they could have had a number of big franchises at their fingertips, like say, Indiana Jones for the new gen of consoles. Instead we have stuff like Star Wars: Uprising that don't even scratch the itch.

The Sid Meier Pirates! series should rightfully be a continuing franchise to this day. Minus ballroom-dancing minigames and plus added historical and geographical theatres (Pirates!: Global, The Barbary Corsairs, Pirates!: Japan) and maybe a space version to boot (with due respect to Elite, Wing Commander: Privateer and EVE Online). Back in the day I must've sunk more hours into the original Pirates! than into The Bard's Tale and Ultima games combined. It even gives Civilization a run for its money.

Nah see, to my way of thinking, LucasArts was already a shadow of it's former self long before Disney got involved. 1313 was the most interesting thing they had even talked about doing for the best part of a decade and they stopped doing non-Star Wars related games before even that. Most of what they used to do is being taken up by companies like Telltale, Double Fine and to a certain extent, Bioware.

I do agree though, Disney are neglecting the video game licencing opportunities for their proprietary IPs. The only thing I can think of is that they're still mostly stuck with the concept that video games are still mostly toys for kids. You'd think a media empire that big would be more aware of what's been going on for the last two decades.

Shadow Hearts...
Such a unique RPG series...
I so would've snatched up a HD collection for the PS3 if it had come out...

Right, but with Disney at the helm, they could have injected new life into the brand, and perhaps saved it from its ruin by turning things around. Right now Disney doesn't have a strong gaming-related brand. Sometimes new management can do good things for something lingering.

See, if Disney doesn't know what to do in terms of gaming, they should have spun LucasArts off and let them do their own thing, and they could have become their main producer and publisher of gaming media for Disney's big IPs.

I refuse to believe that all we'll get is Battlefront. There has to be more in the fire than that. But with LucasArts as a studio gone, Disney is losing some representation in the gaming sector.

About the only other thing I've seen happening is Disney Infinity 3.0, which now includes Star Wars characters and scenarios. I have no idea how it plays, and little interest in it, but it at least looks good.

Oregon Trail. In it's original form. Meaning that your characters can die, and you are able to make up your own headstone. That was a big part of the game's appeal.

I feel like a modern day Oregon Trail could easily be an MMO of some kind, full of characters and headstones and oxen and dysentary all over the goddamn place.

Meh. Kiddie stuff, really. They make money off the figures they sell which can only be used by it, which is still more of their merchandising business rather than gaming.

I would agree. I don't really have much interest in Disney Infinity.

Yea it could be cool. Instead they let you cure people, and no headstones. *ugh*

I liked naming people after politicians and the like and then have them fall ill. :p

Yeah, I want a game I can sink my teeth into :)

Oh yeah, I know. Shame that we'll never get to see it. It was so promising. But maybe there's a chance that it could still be revived and tweaked for the new era.

Unfortunately, if 1313 did receive a retweak, and a potential for release, it will be a castrated version, as Disney would probably not authorize an M rated title, which is what the original version of 1313 was gunning for.

Well, hopefully they'd leave things be. There are a lot of things about the movies that are rather dark. So, if Disney knows what's good for them, they'd let it be for storytelling purposes. Hard to say since they haven't made a push for gaming yet though. I imagine after the new movie comes out and as they're ramping for the second one, they'll be scrambling to release something, or two.
