Game Of Thrones Season 6 Discussion (Spoilers)

^ There's a lot of moments where it seems he's really putting it on OTT, esp in the Season 3 finale where he hands Tyrion the letter that says Rob Stark is dead, and he drops it on the floor like "oh, I'm old." You can tell Tyrion, like his dad, doesn't buy it either.

This ia a fascinating deleted scene showing a transfomation with Tywin and Pycelle; what an actor can do with character. This is the first I've seen of it. I wish we had seen more (any) of that Pycelle:

Reminds me a little of Clark Kent dropping the pretense with Lois in Superman 2:

Wow, what a fantastic scene. It's a shame they cut that out, because it adds so much depth to both characters. We had briefly seen Pycelle's deception before in the brothel scene mentioned above, but nothing to this extent. It was great to see him drop the ruse completely when exposed by Tywin.

Like you got the Clark Kent vibe I was reminded of Yoda's deception with Luke on Dagobah where he pretended to be feeble-minded and out of touch when in reality he's anything but, and with his lightsaber fight in Attack of the Clones where after jumping all over the hangar bay like the Tasmanian Devil he weakly picks up his cane and starts slowly hobbling outside again.

Tywin gets a lot of development too in that we see a softer, more contemplative side of him while he's relaxing fishing, and he reveals that he did respect some of Tyrion's decisions as Hand of the King. Plus, it shows that unlike his decadent children he really was a man who could survive on his own even if he lost everything.

There's also foreshadowing galore as Pycelle mentions dying beneath the Sept of Baelor which he (sort of) did, and Tywin is catching fish which symbolizes his conquest of the Tullys, much his his skinning the buck in S1 symbolized his destruction of the Baratheons.

Yeah, I've always been sorry that scene was cut. Sometimes the best scenes from Game of Thrones are the quiet, contemplative scenes like this one. Even better is the fact that the scene obviously doesn't come from the books but compliments them rather nicely.

I binged all of GoT over the summer, and I agree, I really wish that scene had been left in for all the reasons Locutus mentions. Now I kind of think it's a shame that Pycelle is gone.

Well, a certain actor was on set last year that didn't appear in season 6. I wonder if this is a spoiler only for people who haven't read the books.

Who are you referring to? The only remaining strands from the books were Sam, Edmure, Blackfish and returning to Jaime's book storyline.

Wow, that's quite a catch if they can get her.
I haven't seen past Season 3, so I don't know the full context of the Pycelle and Tywin scene, but even so that was still a great scene.

That's a shame, but I'm not surprised. When I read about what she was up to now on Wikipedia a few months ago, it said she was just doing plays now, so I was surprised to hear about her possibly doing a TV show.

Congrats to GoT for winning the best dramatic series Emmy for the second year in a row (should have been six years in a row). Also won Emmys for writing and directing, both from the "Battle of the Bastards" episode. Getting shut out in the acting categories was disappointing.

It won a total of 11 Emmys, bringing its all time total to 38 which makes it the most awarded series in Emmy history/

Great wins all around, but conversely, I'm not at all surprised Maggie Smith won again (shut up, Kimmel).
