Game Of Thrones Season 5 TV Only Discussion (Spoilers)

I think that no matter the number of bastards, cousins, uncles, etc. that any of their claims on the throne would be tenuous. At that point, it would be more likely to be taken by force than with some technicality. And that force would be likely to be by either Daenerys, or perhaps Balon Greyjoy (It's a shame that we don't really see anything of the Greyjoys this season. I wonder if they'll feature more prominently in the next). Alternatively, Baelish could do it, but I don't know if he'll be ready to make his move until several other prominent figures are out of the way.

I don't see how Myrcella could survive, unless Bronn's beautiful woman warned him off and slipped him some antidote. I suppose Bronn is smart enough that after he was poisoned he could have grabbed some antidote just in case. I suppose if Cersei's prophecy is correct she can't die until she gets her gloden crown..

I think the golden crown was referring to the hair color of kids. Myrcella has that so she is now ready for her golden shroud.

Ah well. Maybe Margaery will go tell everyone she's pregnant and then go find someone to make sure it's true (if not legit pregnant by Tommen) if only to save her skin?

I would not agree with calling omnicidal entities "noble". Noble people don't just go out and slaughter innocents who have never done anything to hurt them to lord over them.
If we start calling them "noble" then the Cylons are noble, Sauron is noble, the Borg are noble etc.

They are determent in their goal and you can choose to admire that. However not everybody will agree with that.

They'll see eventually

Yeah, the word "noble" is up for debate. However, everything and everyone dies eventually. Not to get philosophical or religious, but nobody calls their God ignoble for ending lives or wanting total control over the entire universe. It's just the way it is because it's the way it is. It's a morally relative issue obviously and people won't agree. I do lean closer and closer to the theory that the White Walkers will win and kill everyone in Westeros.

I'm surprised how many people care so much that Stannis is the 'Rightful' King. Don't we all live in a culture based on the complete rejection of hereditary monarchy? Nobody in the show other than Ned Stark has ever expressed concern about the line of succession except when it benefits them. Lords side with whoever they think is going to win or whoever promises them the best perks, peasants side with whoever is currently keeping their city from being sacked.

Even a 'Legal' right to claim the throne is only legal because the guys with the biggest armies say it is. Goffrey's right to the throne is no less rightful than any other tyrant who has to rule by force.

But you have to remember, most of the people on the show have their own version of who the "rightful" king is.

It's culturally ingrained.

In that world, everybody is so used to hereditary monarchy, they would probably freak out at the idea of democratically electing someone to rule.

Doran never trusted Ellaria, and gave Jamie the antidote. Or Bronn, who had an experience with it, had some on him. Or even Trystane, who didn't trust Ellaria either.

If Jorah was angry at Dany she wouldn't have fought to protect her only to infect her with a terrible but curable disease.

Yep, this makes sense but there are a few things to consider.

When Jorah left, he looked sadly at his infected arm, then decided to return and fight for the queen. We don't hear his innermost thoughts, but he could have felt betrayed at being left out.

He's been with her through everything, and now he's been replaced with relative strangers. Darrio is now at her side. Tyrion (her reputed enemy) is forgiven and becomes her advisor, and he told her Jorah couldn't be at her side anymore.

Is it possible he was angry at all this?

If the show were to throw yet another curve- (remember he did grasp her hand.)

I like how last season ended with "Darth Sansa" and the actress and writers talking about how Sansa was through with being a victim and would be playing the game, and then the next season her story is all about her being victimized even worse than before, never once even attempting to manipulate anybody or formulate a plan, and then failing to flee for her life and getting rescued by Theon.

^ That's pretty true, sadly.

Anyone have any theories btw on how her and Theon are gonna survive leaping off a god-knows-how-high wall? Surely they won't just splatter, but even deep snow at that hight isn't gonna protect you.

Is there a moat around the castle? Maybe they jump through the snow to the water. Thus surviving the fall, wet but well. But just plain snow will soften their landing enough, atleast in tv-reality.

I'm expecting that the next season will start with Theon and Sansa hiding in some hut, maybe one of them has broken leg or something, but nothing more serious.

---

How about if Kit Harrington takes a break for a year? Like Bran's actor was absent this year. That way his comments about not coming back next year are true. Would there be enough main characters left to fill the absence? Maybe have him back just for some guest appearances. And then end the season with his resurrection.

In the book, Theon and Ramsay's bride, who isn't Sansa, but Jeyne Pool, being passed off as Arya, survive by landing in deep snow (not of the Jon variety).

It's survivable, but in how good a condition you are is a crapshoot. I probably wouldn't feel up to running away from Ramsey's hounds and horses.

This guy survived base jumping from a ~120-m/400-ft. tower in Russia when his chute didn't deploy and he landed in the snow:

It kinda makes you wonder if when Tommen dies, provided that's sooner rather than later, who would have the legal right to claim the throne now.

Who's left of "Robert's" kids?

Joffrey dead, Myrcella most likely dead and Tommen is a boy and weak so he won't last long.

Such a situation with no clear heir would lead back to a civil war and the last big family are the Tyrells because all the others have annihilated each other during the last war and the Lannisters are without firm leadership.

So it's might makes right again.

There's always his innumerable bastards out there.

And who of those has an army large enough to take Westeros and hold it?

Currently most of the family leaders only have enough to hold and secure their own lands and so far no aspirations to take the Iron Throne apart from Dany.

She alone may have a chance given the Unsullied (though to be honest they don't impress me as much in the show with their flimsy "armor" that looks more like some kind of cheap cosplay or Larp armor you can make yourself out of pieces of leather) and her adolescent dragons.
We also don't know which way the Dothraki lean whom she met in the season finale.. if they join her full force there would probably be no army in Westeros that could oppose her.

I heard the Wile E. Coyote impact sound effect in my head.

^ Being that it's Russia, I'm guessing that after that happened he got up, brushed himself off, returned to work from his lunch break, and said "Grrrr, Mondays!"

He just needed to pause in midair and hold up a sign that said "Help!"

At this point, I don't think it's really about who can be king of Westeros anymore. If there even is a Westeros after the White Walkers are done, the throne will go to whoever's left/whoever led the fight against them. In the meantime, Westeros is basically just a big collection of practically independent fiefdoms. Tommen clearly has no influence, even inside King's Landing. And with Cersei's poor character traits, I'm rather expecting next season to open with all out war between the Sparrows and the King's Guard, and I imagine that King's Landing may be ruled purely by the Sparrows for some time afterward.

Maybe they'll install some sort of 'Regent' figure to take care of important business, (Lancel Lannister, perhaps? He's related to the royal family but also loyal to the sparrows) on the understanding that they'll step down as soon as a legitimate heir presents themselves in King's Landing - which may not happen, considering the only significant heirs would be Daenerys or someone from Margaery's family and Margaery's family aren't going to trust the sparrows one bit. And in the meantime they'll be trying to spread their religious reforms throughout the land.

I have a theory on why Brienne would keep Stannis alive. She needs him to publicly confess to Renley's murder. She keeps saying Renley was killed by a shadow, and people think she's nuts or lying. This is her chance to exonerate herself.

No one would believe Stannis. They would either think that Stannis is crazy or that Brienne's forcing him to make up the story about the shadow.
