Game of Thrones season 2 anticipation - HBO shows footage

^Every single one of those is awesome!

I do have one teensy problem that has popped up in a few trailers though. Spoiler coded just in case:
they show Margeary and Renly apparently sleeping together. Considering them outright stating that Renly is gay in the show, and the later importance of whether or not they did consummate, it seems an odd choice.

It's not really problem IMO.

Historically, even men of his orientation needed to provide heirs. Its a job that needed to get done, even if it was not his preference. It is also possible that the show portrays him as bi than gay.

It becomes important when
Margaery is set to marry Joffrey, then Tommen. Everyone insists that she is still a maiden. (Shades of Catherine of Aragon there.)

When septas examine her in AFFC, didn't they say that she's, in fact, not a virgin? Or was it Pycelle who told everyone whatever Cercei told him?
Even if Renly was gay and everyone around him knew it, I find it hard to believe that he didn't perform his marital duties at least once on his wedding night.

It's been a while since I read the first book, and I only just finished the second, so I feel a little stupid asking but...

Was Renly gay in the books? Hell, was Renly even in the first book? So many characters to memorise.

I read that GRRM said that that was the intention.

Jamie to Loras in ASoS (paraphrased): Put away that sword or i'll stick it in a place that even Renly couldn't find.

Made it pretty clear that he is and that the court seems to know it too.

It's one of the worst kept secrets in the realm. Jaime comments about in one of the books. I'm sure they did the deed. You have to in order to keep the line moving along.

Renly's original plan was to have Robert dump Cersei and marry Margaery instead. He points out to Ned that she resembles Lyanna. I don't think this is mentioned in the series, just the book.

The septa says she isn't a virgin. It's speculated that this may be because she likes horse-riding rather than indicating she's actually had sex, but it's not resolved either way.

We should probably move the spoiler-heavy discussion topic to the ASOIAF spoiler thread (it should be on the main page)... My idea when creating this thread was to have one that non-book readers could participate in.

Thanks! (I'm guilty as well) :)

HBO has released the final poster in the "for fans" series:
(previous entries in this series, "The North Remembers" and "The king does as he likes")

"I will take what is mine!"

TV critics have now received the first four episodes of the season to review, and some first impressions have started to appear on twitter.

Here's what Jace Lacob (@televisionary) had to say:

Episodes 1+2:
https://twitter.com/#!/televisionary/status/182246194465095680
The first two episodes of S2 #GameofThrones are very, very strong indeed. Some spellbinding, heart-pounding stuff. I’ve missed this world.
Episode 3:

Another fantastic episode of #GameOfThrones, written by @BryanCogman. Brutal, beautiful, and glittering in its malice. Loved. Saving 204…
Episode 4:

Ep 204 of #GameOfThrones is fantastic: majesty, mystery, and a dance of shadows. An amazing installment filled with brutality and wit.

It certainly sounds promising. :techman:

[FONT=Verdana, Arial]And I'm here to report that my lack of homework in no way prevented me from becoming enthralled with this series all over again. That's a testament to what adapters David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have accomplished in whittling down and reshaping Martin's novels for weekly TV. It's difficult enough to hook a viewer like me, who resists sprawling, noncontemporary narratives; it's another level of pop culture wizardry to make such storytelling seem so vivid, so vital, and just plain fun. Raves from Mo Ryan:

Mo Ryan ‏ @moryan

Spoiler-free thots on S2 E1: The mastery & confidence seen at end of S1 on display. Wonderful visuals, acting, graceful pace. Also, LOVE

directing by Alan Taylor, he just GETS this show. Incredibly pleased with how he captures both the epic & personal. #gameofthrones #GoT

Nice to hear, but Ken Tucker is such a hack reviewer. Everything gets a B+ or A-. And the reviews are as generic as they come. (he could have written that without seeing any episode)

True, Not sure why they didn't have James Hibberd the GOT guy do the review.

HBO has released a 22 minute season 1 recap and season 2 primer called "You win or you die" - consisting of mostly season 1 footage and actor interviews. But there are also some new season 2 footage sprinkled in:
