Future of Paramount includes Star Trek tentpole

Paramount suicidal ya'll. Let's hope Disney gets Trek in the fallout.

Also, this other article talks about financials at Paramount and includes this statement...

"Presumably the new slate financier will have an opportunity to co-finance the Paramount-Skydance collaborations that include a revamped version of The Terminator, which Deadpool director Tim Miller is developing to direct with input from the franchise’s creator James Cameron, and another shot at the Star Trek franchise, along with the coming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and the rebirth of Top Gun."

If Paramount are giving Terminator another shot after two movies which were supposed to start trilogies but never got beyond part 1 (and the last one made barely over half what Beyond did in the US), then more Star Trek is a certainty.

If Trek 4 for 2019 (summer as Xmas belongs to SW9) then we'll be hearing about it being fast tracked any day now.. if not then it'll be a 2020/21 release

According to the article Paramount is in financial turmoil because they have a loss of $455 millions for 2016 alone, and their much-publicized deal with the Chinese investment companies is in limbo because of Chinese government intervention.

The new US-based investors might invest in Paramount which in turn might proceed with a number of planned films which might include Star Trek (1)4.

if not then, it'll be a 2050 release and so on and on (by then the actors will make a remake of Cocoon but ok)
That's the spirit.

tbh, a tiny part of me still wonders if there is a little chance that the silence about the reboot is due to Discovery just getting released, thus some sort of 'deal' between paramount and cbs? I mean, didn't they need to wait x months after Beyond got released before they could promote and release Discovery? maybe it's valid on reverse too.

but then again, the fact that JJ is directing SW doesn't make me too optimistic. I think they really needed his name for a fourth movie, I can't think about other directors who would be available and would be good for this trek. Waiting for a 2020 release would be better than nothing for sure, but waiting all these years had already proved to be bad for this fandom in terms of keeping people still interested.

They don't even seem to have a definite creative team for the script. Both rumored writing teams might be a risk for paramount. Like, the guys who worked with Orci are too unknown .. but then giving the job to the ones who wrote Beyond, without adding someone new to the mix, seems to be risky too after that movie's results.

1st - I definitely want to see movie 4 with this cast n crew. Feel they finally got their footing after 3 movies

BUT, IF Paramount reboots AGAIN want to see 25th century ST. Totally new crew no TNG reboot. Move Trek into undefined time frame with great script n director n have at it

interesting you say this about an "undefined time frame" because i kind of feel like that's what the kelvin timeline (and now discovery) is. it's less specific in its depiction of the 23rd century as established by the series set in the 22nd and 24th centuries and more a general depiction of the star trek future.

i'm reminded of something rick berman said in an interview (i don't remember where) justifying why they opted to do enterprise after voyager, rather than continue into the future. he said "what do we do? make the costumes tighter?" or something to that effect. i kinda feel like the 25th century is a nonstarter. if there's a reboot, yeah just do star trek and set in "the future" and be done with it.

but no seriously, do more kelvin timeline films.

Hollywood LOVES to recycle old ideas. If they don't do the Kirk-meets-his-daddy ST4 story, I bet they'll dust off the Romulan war movie concept ("Star Trek: The Beginning"), or the "SEAL Team Six of the Star Trek Universe" one.

Understand what you are saying. Kelvin timeline was created to make things different n open possibilities. I WANT a 4th movie with this crew, lots of possibilities. Don't want JJ n crew to write the script tho.

Mean new characters and a ship not named Enterprise, etc.

A 25th century Trek, or pick a timw frame after TNG WITHOUT stale Berman Trek formulas n rules, etc.

Breathe fresh air into a new era like JJ did with 09, but with better scripts IMO
