Fun things to do with a time machine.

When I was 14, I participated in a statewide FBLA competition, and after the awards ceremony, we were "treated" to this huge (as in, multiple big screens) multimedia presentation that was mostly globalist propaganda mixed with some licensed music that sounded really good though the surround sound, like "Coming to America" by Neil Diamond when they were talking about the global workforce. What I've imagined doing for a while now is getting in there with all of those bright eager minds and replacing that presentation with one that brings everyone up to speed on all of the major developments *between then and now*, including bad things like 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina and so forth. And then popping forward about 3 or 6 months at a time back up to the present, to watch the improvements/chaos that would cause. :D

Sounds like something I'd do. Oh and I'd warn everyone about the 2016 election.

Not a bad idea, but I've got a feeling that the way we remember it would have been well and truly butterflied away, long before it got to that point. Just fixing the ballot boxes in Florida in the 2000 election would probably take care of that - and that would be FAR from the only change, I'm sure.

Why what happened in 2000 that was important?

Except there would be still the working class feeling slighted by the establishment of both parties, no matter what happens in the Aughts...

Couldn't do that because it could literally kill millions if not more people because of how the change would create ripples that impact everything. Every baby born after the election would never be born. Many people alive today might be dead because their lives have been altered and maybe in this new timeline they get killed in a car accident or something. Not to mention as bad as things are the idea of loosing 3 years of memories would mean I would be dead and the me that would be alive would just be a alternate version of me who lived a whole other 3 years.

Unless were talking about creating a alternate timeline that would exist along side ours and which case it would be fun to then jump forward 3 years and just see how different things would be. I always wish I could see what the world would have been like for example if 9/11 didn't happen. I would want to return to my timeline though were my family is because then the issue of whether or not a alternate family is really your family anymore. Of course it didn't seem to bug Marty McFly so who knows.

Bush v Gore? If Gore had gotten the Presidency, it would have changed the whole order of events afterward.

Except there would be still the working class feeling slighted by the establishment of both parties, no matter what happens in the Aughts...

Well that's a good point. A Gore win would have been good but we'd still have those people who feel put out by the establishment regardless of who is in power.

An Al Gore presidency would have been interesting.

Pardon my asking, but what 'improvements' would come from that?

There's no telling, and there's no telling whether all of the changes that would occur would be improvements, which is why I also said "chaos". But I'm imagine that at the very least, a bomb threat might be called into the WTC the morning of 9/11 long enough before the planes hit that the buildings could be emptied, and that would be an improvement.
that's kind of a scary big change. are you talking about changing ballots so gore wins instead of loses?
No, the ballots *already* meant that Gore won. I'm talking about them possibly correcting the issue that allowed the lawsuit that lead to the SCOTUS deciding the election for Bush.

I'm sensing a theme here that Left Wing Politics like 'do overs' when they don't get the result they like ;)

Honestly, with my fun time travel premise, I don't even care exactly *what* would happen - including modifying that election. The fun for me would be in seeing what THEY do with the information, which might include that, might not, who knows? They might make a better future, they might kick off World War III (IV?)... or they might just be very careful to let things roll as they have so as not to change much while playing heck out of the stock market. ;)

Yeah, it's kind of tiring in a way. Everyone is so tediously delicate, I think they enjoy the drama. It amuses me the whole chads thing. What a pitiful system. In my time machine I would make every ballot that was not done correctly invalid. If one is too stupid to present a proper vote then one is too stupid to count.

OMG I find myself agreeing with you somewhat

you might be over estimating the role politics plays in everyday life.

No it isn't really the politics so much as ever little change would expand into something bigger and bigger. For example maybe two nights later a couple will have sex that will eventually create a baby. If Clinton won and they wanted her to win then it means everything they experienced that night would be different.

Maybe in this world they were kind of sad finding out Trump won. But maybe in this new world they are happy and they have sex that night and it's sex that leads to the creation of a child. So they end up having a kid they didn't have before but also meaning the one they did have won't be born because what they will be doing 2 days later is very different.

It's basically the butterfly effect. Something as simple on stepping on a Butterfly in the past could change the world in ways we couldn't even imagine and creating a world were we get a different President would be a huge change. I mean it would be a world sprung from 2016 so it would still be very familiar to our world with mostly the same people and pop culture stuff and world history but recent history would be different.

We would have gotten "Al Gore Invents The Internet Day". Another holiday is never a bad thing.

Personally, I'd have a McRib sandwich...any...freakin'...time...I...like. I'm always a week late finding out about them.

In fact, I think a lot of my time traveling would involve food that's either "limited time only", or discontinued.

Food would be a good thing to experience in the past. They say it tasted much better back in the 50's and 60's. In fact I think I might open a resturant in the present day selling 1960's hamburgers or something like that. I would pay the 60's cooks with blu rays of future shows and movies. I think people in the 60's would love "Star Wars" and Marvel movies.

Or find a way to create a portal that allows them to cook the food in the past and send it down to the kitchen in the present.
