Do you know who Bob Justman was and why his "opinion" ( in the form of a memo issue while the show was in production) holds more weight than, well your's or another fan? I don't understand why you can't accept that you were wrong. I was wrong about this very topic for decades. And when present with the evidence that showed I was wrong I was willing to admit it and accept it.
Exactly.
It is also something I like. I think the multiple badges give flavor to the universe. But, it was obviously a mistake made by the costuming department. From everything we've learned over the years, there was never an intent, at any point, for there to be different badges for different ships.
You mean that the evidence is that there was never any such intent by the
auture Gene Roddenberry. I think that's an important clarification, because there
was such an intent to costume different ships with different badges on at least two occasions by one or more subordinates, probably including Bill Theiss, who were probably acting in good faith, given the variety of badges shown in the first season, but who were not corrected in time for those second season episodes to get produced. The point is that it's not like the badges entered canon because Theiss et al. were acting contrary to how they'd been instructed. I believe that it's also reasonable to wonder whether it was clear in
anybody's mind except Gene Roddenberry's that the
Antares was not supposed to be a Starfleet service vessel.
