Normally Danny wouldn't maken it on a space crew, but he's the beneficiary of:

    1) being part of an emerging "aristocracy" within the astronaut corps as the son of Gordo and Tracy Stevens

    2) enormous goodwill and additional public fame earned from almost singlehandedly saving the Polaris space hotel

    3) Ed's mental blind spot as his dead best friend's son

Given that Jedi Marso is doing his first watch of S3 that should be spoiler coded.

Fair point. Added a spoiler code to the third one because it's the only thing that isn't already seen in the S3 premiere

Don't worry about that- show's been out for quite a while now. I've only got 5 eps left to go and I'm caught up, and I'll probably watch them all over the next 2-3 days.

Plus, there's already the 'spoiler' in the title. Caveat Emptor and all that. ;)

Are you liking the series? While I wasn't all that keen on some of the decisions made in season 3, I've had a fun time with it and hopefully season 4 comes out soon. I haven't really followed much of the news if they had finished it prior to the strikes though.

I find it especially odd that somebody allegedly took umbrage at discovering a somewhat inclusionist bend ... in a TV show ... called For All Mankind.

I don't know either, but I've read that S4 is supposed to drop either this fall or in the spring, but I read it on the internet, so...

Enjoying it immensely so far. It feels like this world is better than the one we actually live in, even with the Soviets still being around.

I think I read on Reddit that there might be a 7-season bible for this show. Hard to imagine where that would end up! (With a whole cast turnover by that time, I would expect.) Aleida would be an old lady in the 2030's, if they stick to the 'new decade per season' formula. At some point, though, I would expect to start seeing things looking a LOT more advanced on Earth itself.

General consensus or expectation is that the show might end with the launch of the first generational ship to the nearest star system Alpha Centauri ( i don't think they'll invent actual FTL capabilty, there's too much Science Fiction involved in that).

I recently found a cool channel that projects future projects by using cutting edge science and extrapolating it further into the future, For All Mankind might take a cue but then againit might look like too much futurism.

Here's the channel, if nothing it's entertaining to watch:

I get the distinct impression that both sides being on the Moon and then both sides' astronauts taking it up among themselves to defuse the nuclear crisis with the Apollo-Soyuz mission, has curbed both sides' worst abuses. We're seeing a better version of the U.S. and a better version of the USSR than ever existed in real life.

I swear I read someone that it was said that Aleida Rosales will be the one character that will make it all the way to the end of the series.

That would be cool, especially given that to a large degree, she was the one that got them all there. She might end up as one of the world's unsung heroes, moving and shaking behind the scenes but never getting the fame or recognition of the astronauts. There was more than one real-life Aleida-type person at NASA in the 60's and 70's, and some were minorities.

Yup, Ron Moore has said that several times, particularly in a big interview just before (or just after, I forget) the third season.

Well, finished S3 today. That was as good as the other two, as far as I'm concerned. Don't know why so many people didn't like it.

    1. The Baldwin family is racking up quite a set of records. Loved the imagery of Kelly holding her newborn under the light of Mars. Her getting back to Pathfinder was lifted right out of The Martian. I'm sorry, but those bitches owe Andy Weir royalties on that one. Glad that Ed survived- I had no spoilers on that, so I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. Very 'Right Stuff' there at the end with him walking away from the wreck of Popeye, and the Russian commander coming out to fetch him.

    2. At first I thought they took the easy out with Margo, having her perish in the bomb blast. I loved the 2003 tease. Reminded me of the character of Martha in The Americans, who is gradually turned by the Soviets and ends up 'defecting' to the USSR, where she lives a drab, miserable, unhappy life. I have no sympathy for Margo at all. In fact, I think given all possible outcomes for her, this is the one I would choose. Life in the Soviet system as a member of the proletariat, after her life as a free American citizen and Administrator of NASA. Hard for a southern girl to adjust to that weather, too. Good riddance.

    3. Hopefully we'll find out how, exactly, Molly died. Smoke inhalation? Last we saw was her making her way back in for more survivors. I love it when the blind, female astronaut picks the pencil neck up off the floor and tells him not to worry- she's getting him out of there! Maybe my favorite character on the show, in the end. For all she claimed membership in the 'selfish prick' club, her outcomes always revolved around making pickup on her team mates when the chips were down. Big Damn Hero, indeed. :weep:

    4. The Stevens brothers are quite a pair. Danny's punishment is fitting for now, until they can get him back to a real prison on Earth. Given the shortage of resources, if Danny had any real courage he'd take a walk out the airlock without a spacesuit like his parents. Of course, as Gandalf once said, even the wise cannot see all ends. He may yet have an heroic part to play before this is over. His brother needs to be sent up the river as soon as they can collar, try, and convict him. Interesting, fitting, and realistic that of course there is a conspiracy theory about what happened on the moon, and NASA lying about it. Another subtle mirror on reality.

    5. Didn't love the whole North Korean thing, and it was a helluva swerve to throw in at the very tail end of the season. Whatever.

    6. The birth of Kelly's child on this mission is both the most unrealistic and realistic thing portrayed this season. Because the first birth that happens off Earth isn't going to be planned- that much is for damn sure. You send young men and women somewhere remote, have them work and live together in a confined, often boring space, and children are going to happen eventually. It's how we've survived the past umpteen tens of thousands of years- it's the strongest drive in nature, not easily overcome.

    7. Glad to see the president show some spine and finally come out of the closet. Maybe she got re-elected in '96 on the power of guts and truth, although I wouldn't bet that way. Since her two possible terms covered real-life Clinton terms 1-2, it'll be interesting to see who the president is in 2003. At this point, I think the show would be smart to diverge from 'known' politicians and go in a totally new direction there.

    8. Sad that Karen never knew that Kelly and Ed both made it. Interesting character arc by the time it was said and done. An old hand at the waiting game, she knew what to do for the families at home when the mining disaster went down. That was a nice show of experience based on the past, there. Still not going to miss her. Much.

Eager to see where we go when S4 kicks off in the year 2003. Do we get shown the triumphant return of the first mission, or do we get told? Because if it's the former, our heroes are going to be on Mars a LOT longer than they planned.

Also: is Kelly's child a boy or a girl?

I kind of envy you on this one. Everywhere on the internet that was covering or discussing the show noticed the "unmanned North Korean probe" and predicted that it would actually have someone in it, and that a North Korean would be the first person on Mars. It was worse than Lorca being from the Mirror Universe or Voq and Tyler being the same person in terms of people spotting the foreshadowing and making sure there was no chance anyone else would be surprised, either.

After watching this show and seeing some of the designs, one thing that sticks out in my mind:

The Space 1999 Eagle would have totally worked as a lunar hopper, and as a shuttle for Luna to Earth orbit. Make the nose part a re-entry capable capsule, and the rest of the Eagle becomes the back-and forth truck. Good for hauling cargo, crew, or hab modules.

As a matter of fact...the ILREC piloted lander was going to be an Eagle type vehicle built exactly as you suggested:
    (International Lunar Resources Exploration Concept).

    Cool!

An 'in-universe' ad for Helios so looks like it survived and is running the international base on Mars. Ed Baldwin is the speaker in it.

Season 4 is going to launch November 10th.

You know, I just realized, it's going to be so weird seeing a version of 2003 that isn't all fucked-up and riddled with collective PTSD.

A pretty atypical INSPIRATIONAL advertisement...right until the very weird close-up bumper of Ed.

Good to have have an official premiere date and that the strikes haven't delayed the season.

It does make me wonder if there is going to be a 9/11 type event though. The NASA bombing basically was the Oklahoma City Federal building bombing.

I actually wondered if it might be a terrorist attack carried out in space, possibly on the moon unless the Mars 'colony' has gotten significantly larger.
