Spoilers First Reviews

I think so, yes. But it’s still pretty red under regular conditions. Elements like the floor are definitely red and not only lit by red light.
I've never understood the logic with the decks having to be so shiny.

Makes me think of this ...

I don’t dislike the bridge design, but is it me or does it look like they have been very inspired by a Space Age / Jet Age design language? It feels very chrome-y, with lots of organically sweeping lines, grills and candy-color red. I mean, I love the mid-century design influences that shape the sets of Strange New Worlds, but here it strangely feels out of place to make it all look like some retro-futuristic Cadillac.

It looks like a 60s diner.

It does a bit, doesn’t it? Well, I guess if a bridge can look like a carpeted 80s beige hotel lobby with wooden paneling it can also look like a 60s diner.

Will be interesting to learn if something like that was on the moodboard when this was designed.

Toxic fandom was in force all the way back then as well, and this was described as being, "The Love Boat in space." Having a bald Captain just fueled those kinds of comments. "This will just be The Love Boat in space. Star Trek is ruined."

Followed a few years later by...

"You can't do Star Trek on a space station! Star Trek is ruined."

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

The only thing that ever changes is the title of the show.

All true. I think there’s a lot of truth in what Tawny Newsome said on the Blue Carpet (paraphrasing): “The fans will dissect everything they hate about it, it is a Star Trek rite of passage.” :(

And that is an absolute tragedy.

No, I'm not being hyperbolic. The older I get the more I realize that Star Trek had short changed people's ability to grow. The claim that it is philosophical and foundational is lost because people don't apply it in real life. "Star Trek use to mean something!"

What do you mean that it used to? You stopped applying the lessons of learning about diversity because of a TV show changing formats? What does that say about the lessons supposedly learned?

Star Trek fandom as a whole has a dour experience to it and it's very sad.

Well, from a production standpoint there's at least good reason to use carpet.

It dampens sound, prevents reflections, makes things slightly easier on the actors, and has a minimal level of upkeep compared to shiny floors.

The real question is why they moved away from it, because that's gotta be costing them a lot in post production work to remove footsteps, shoe squeaks, and unwanted reflections.

If they were going for the Las Vegas Casino look, they nailed it.

i'm worried the haters are going to win. Like they did with Acolyte. The cancellation might not have been because of the noisy detractors , but they most certainly were cheering about it.

I hope we get that third season announcement for SFA soon
They only reason it got canceled was because the mainstream audience didn't show up.

I asked ChatGPT to sum up what early reviewers thought of SFA. According to AI (yes, I went there!), the reviews were mixed but leaning positive. There's an optimistic tone. Not a lot of exploring new worlds, but I wasn't expecting that with the Academy setting. It does have teen dramedy and that was also to be expected.

If this honestly isn't your cup of tea, then fine. I might even end up agreeing with you. But if you're like "They made it woke!!!", then no. 1,000 times no.

E1 is great! None of the characters were as annoying as I feared, all were better than expected, it looks beautiful and has a very moving scene already. The one thing that I didn't like that much was that some of the conversations between two characters were too slow and drawn out. But things made sense, fit together nicely, and the eastereggs are nice to see and just as easy to ignore in most cases for those who don't care about them. I would say it's better than Disco and half of SNW. The music also stood out, there is a song choice that moved me to tears. AMA :D

This is very encouraging to hear, especially since you're someone with a mixed view of Discovery and things spun off from it. I know that you don't automatically go either one way or the other.

It had the general look of DIS S3-5, which makes sense, but I found it better in terms of writing, things making sense, and having an inspirational undertone.

Do we find out what class of ship the Athena belongs to?

There is a vertical plaque next to the bridge door, but I couldn't pause the video or zoom in :D
Looked like it had red background with gold letters...
