First Picard Show pic!

The clip itself is humorous enough, people shouldn't be freaking out anymore that it's going to be a depressing and somber show. No doubt it'll cover a wide spectrum of emotions and themes.

It's all a fevered dream where Picard's delusions are creating a mishmash of things. The uniforms are clearly a bad (IMO) mix of TNG, VOY and others... The fact the kid in the ill-fitting uniform doesn't immediately recognize the legendary Jean-Luc Picard...

Clearly Picard will wake up from the dream at some point and see Dr. Culber's smiling face welcoming him to the 32nd century, having been revived from the status pod he'd been put into to save him from certain death by an as yet incurable 25th century disease.

Or I could be entirely mistaken.:shifty:

Place holder. Even the name is placeholder. My money is it's not called Star Trek: Picard (though I wouldn't mind it at all if it is the final name)

STP, any issues with the acronym? Or are we going with PIC? PCR? PRD? Should we open up a poll?

CBS' abbreviations for the show are not consistent: VGR, ENT and DSC.

Only one of them used the first 3 letters of the name. So Picard could be PIC, it could also be PCD, or PRD.

No real way to guess.

I set out the convention for this last year:
If the title contains more than one word, use the first letter of each.
The Original Series - TOS
The Animated Series - TAS
The Motion Picture - TMP
The Wrath of Khan - TWOK
The Search for Spock - TSFS
The Voyage Home - TVH
The Next Generation - TNG
The Final Frontier - TFF
The Undiscovered Country - TUC
First Contact - FC
Into Darkness - ID

If one of those words is a number, use a numeral.
Deep Space Nine - DS9

If the title is just one word, use the first three letters.
Generations - GEN
Voyager - VOY
Insurrection - INS
Enterprise - ENT
Nemesis - NEM

Following this logic, the latest additions should be clear-cut.
Beyond - BEY
Discovery - DIS
Star Trek: Picard therefore abbreviates to PIC.
(Aside: It truly baffles me that Discovery is called STD by anyone who isn't deliberately trying to discredit it.)

With regards to the uniforms, I am a little disappointed that they have not gone for the All Good Things/The Visitor/Endgame versions which had been well established. Though the design of these is not bad, I share the concern that in close-up shots they do not appear well constructed.

As we need an in-universe explanation for the discrepancy, I say it's down to Janeway:

Voyager kept the 2369 uniforms even long after making contact with the Alpha Quadrant and seeing that Starfleet had switched to the grey quilted versions. I speculate that the Voyager crew in general, and Janeway in particular, disliked the new design and so resisted changing for as long as possible, but obviously were compelled to update once they got home.

When Admiral Janeway went back in time to tell her past self about Chakotay dying and Tuvok going insane, she also warned of an even more objectionable uniform design in the pipeline. When Captain Janeway returned home and got kicked upstairs, she worked to maneuver herself onto the dress code committee and persuaded the fleet to switch back to a uniform style more like the one she had worn in her heyday, but lost the battle on the combadges.

Well established in timelines that often are ultimately erased.

It has happened! I watched it happen! I saw it happen! Don't tell me it didn't happen!
Could I get some more Nero please.

Now the biggest question that needs to be addressed.
Will Harry be in it? That can’t leave his personal valet out.

Is there any chance Picard will get an opportunity to command the Enterprise, whatever form it may be... 1701-F, one last time? Data, in command, giving Picard the keys ala Spock did for Kirk in TWOK, for me it would be a highlight for the series.

I think Picard would be OK with not commanding a starship anymore, that he could transition into another role and be happy with it. He isn’t Jim Kirk.

I’d bet on...exceedingly unlikely.

I just realised, those split delta symbols in 2399 aren't keeping continuity with Discovery, they're keeping continuity with Star Trek: Renegades in 2388:lol:

They did it first in 2015!

The future uniforms are probably the worst uniforms ever designed for Trek. I have a theory that the timelines featuring them get wiped out purely because the uniforms are too ugly to exist.

They did their job then - they were *designed* to be ugly and dumpy - the high waist in particular was intended to remind you of old people's clothes.
