ST Picard: Things that just happen

It didn't really bother me that Q came back. It bothered me that the reason for his death was never dealt with at all. It just felt like one more thing that was floated in the writer's room that no one could be bothered exploring or explaining.
I always tend to look at the big picture of Star Trek, so my thoughts immediately went back to this being a consequence of Quinn's assisted suicide in Death Wish. Mortality had been introduced to the Continuum, and there was no coming back from that. However, if that had been the writers intent, and it may have been because these people do watch Star Trek, they should have spelled it out a little more clearly in the script.

Let's just call a duck a duck: Q was nothing more than a plot device to send Picard back in time to deal with his mommy issues (which was a huge retcon, as he had no such issues in TNG), his psychologically unstable ancestor (who was actually fine except that Q was pretending to be her therapist for whatever stupid reason) and to have an excuse to kill off characters so that they could bring in the TNG cast for season 3. That's it. There was no greater lesson that Q was trying to teach Picard. He was just being a shithead for shithead's sake, just like he was back in TNG season 1. And the whole 'Q is dying thing' was a bunch of BS that was completely nullified at the end of season 3. The only redeeming quality here was that the character was still played by John DeLancie, who was able to transcend the shitty dialogue and story with his good acting. Other than that, S2 was a shitshow.
