First Picard Show pic!

Kicking this post, because I thought it was an interesting observation....!

BOTTOM LEFT (seeming to notice Picard): BEVERLY CRUSHER???? (or production staff?)

Which is why I feel the JJmovies should be the reset button and just let things be. I'm hoping Star Trek Picard series could somehow merge all the universes into one and destroy all so-called canon. There ENT and DISCO can finally make sense and be part of the JJverse for good.

Then again, there's the hopeful Tarantino movie which I hope gets off the ground!
Why do we need one canon?

I was actually talking about the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant in Van Nuys, California; a location used in TNG, DS9, and Voyager for Starfleet Academy, but, I didn't notice the Convention Center text, so.
Maybe I need to go start sniffing around Cal State Northridge and the Tillman (I live more or less halfway between the two, in almost the geographic center of the San Fernando Valley).

EDIT: I just realized the unintentional pun I made about Tillman (it is a sewage plant, after all).

Why do we need one canon?
We really don't need one canon but heck I feel these new creators deserve to shoot from the hip and have a clean canvas to start on and not try to make everything done from the past work because it can not. I would rather have everything be in their separated entities TOS, TAS, TOS Movies, TNG and it's spinoffs, TNG Movies, DISCO, ST PICARD, but continuity is something that's still in and I don't like the connections which doesn't fit... so blow it up!!! Reset everything and start from one point, the JJmovies perhaps, and go from there, maybe there's something special with this new ST Picard series where it could cancel one universe and make DISCO the starting off point or merge them or establish there's multiple Star Trek universes ala TNG "Parallels" ex. where Worf traveled through multiple universes which spawned variant events of the Enterprise.

How do we even know the destruction of Romulus really happened in Prime universe? To me that was just a plot device for JJ to have Leonard Nimoy as fan service in his Space Action Adventure Movie with characters named after Trek characters and a superb soundtrack that was quite entertaining.

As far as I‘m concerned it will only have happened if its referenced to in this show that happens after TNG.

Trek is currently run by one of the writers and producers of that movie, and he's said Picard deals with the subsequent dissolution of Romulus, so yes.

Insofarasmuch as you consider any modern Trek to be "true" Trek ()

I dont. Indeed. So far any modern Trek has been more or less a travesty. Especially the second movie, that was but a parody. But they have been entertaining.

And if the producers say it happened, then it did.

Everyone is wearing that uniform in all the leaked shots, and the banners say 'Starfleet Headquaters'.

Safe to say it's the standard uniform.
Yeah. The guy is also seen with one round pip in a location analogous to where they are in the AGT / The Visitor / Endgame future uniforms. Guess one thing made it out of those alternate timelines. ;)

Well, hopefully after "Nemesis" and before the movie Star Trek.
In the sense you mean, I'm pretty sure--going by production statements--it's *after* both (i.e. at the time of Picard, the Hobus supernova has already occurred and Spock has already left this timeline to enter the Kelvin one).

Fair enough. Personally I have no issue with DSC moving in to TOS but I get that isn't everyone's cup.

Kelvin Trek as its own separate timeline/continuity appeals to me but I would be completely in support of a full reboot.
I’m sure the show will have references throughout to various things
Yes, but I want specific references is what I am hinting. Thus far, just Picard was not enough to hook me. Picard dealing with Romluans post Hobus engages me.

I think Picard, at face value, seems like the safest thing they can possibly go with. They can rope in TNG and Kelvin fans at the same time, by having Picard deal with the aftermath of Romulus. And whatever else they do with other series, they have the 25th Century to fall back on now. They've created a Safety Net.

Definitely so. I think this is a bet hedge, while allowing other shows to go in different directions. I think it is a solid plan, potentially could get other Trek alums in there for a time, and then move forward.

Thinking about it - maybe they are frumpy and dumpy like the early DS9 uniforms to invoke the feeling of the 90s before they pull the rug from us after Starfleet tells Picard to bugger off and he has to put together his crew.

I really hope if there are Starfleet officers in the main cast, theirs will be much better tailored. It makes sense that background extras, bit performers etc. only have standard sized costumes. But seriously, the ensign asking Picard his name in the promo really evokes the costume debacle from Generations where only Sir Patrick and Brent Spiner had costumes specifically tailored for them and the rest had to be borrowed from the DS9 crew... Avery Brooks' uniform looked kinda okay if not a perfect fit on Jonathan Frakes, but it was glaringly obvious that LeVar Burton had to borrow his from Colm Meaney with his rolled-up sleeves and all that.

I was gonna say that it's always been standard practice for extras' uniforms to get less attention than "hero" uniforms...but the guy we're looking at close-up has a speaking role.
