First look at Caesar from Rise of the Planet of the Apes

This shot is brief, but I think it looks great!

Man, CGI is definitely the way to go with this thing. I can't wait to see this guy in action.

Very nice.

I'm seriously hoping they don't screw the pooch on this. I'm hoping for at least a B-minus, or a strong C plus film, maybe a couple of sequels for a modern day trilogy.

Yeah, that looks superb

Wasn't this originally called Rise of the Apes? "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" seems a bit of mouthful.

I guess they want to make a blatent connection to the franchise, but any fan of that would probably know about this anyway, and I imagine "the kids" today don't even know what Planet of the Apes is. Most never watch films made pre-2000, never mind one from 1968

^ Yes it was called that originally. Not really sure why they changed it. Looks great actually. I was impressed with the script and will probably check this out.

Very expressive eyes. Impressive.

Yeah, that's the thing that really jumps out at you. It looks like a chimpanzee with some serious shit on his mind... as opposed to a guy in a chimpanzee costume with some serious shit on his mind*.

To reiterate what milo bloom said, I really hope they can deliver with this film.

*Not to belittle the incredible make-up work that was done on the previous films, mind you.

Looks good. I hope the film turns out okay -- Planet of the Apes is a world rife with story-telling possibilities. It's a shame so many entries into that world have been so disappointing.

I don't know. While technically proficient and more realistic than the 60s movies, I have to wonder if we haven't hit sort of an "uncanny valley" on humanoid apes. That thing was so close to what a talking, intelligent, mutated chimp would probably look like that I found it off-putting.

There was no good reason to forego the publicity value of the "Planet Of The Apes" title - it's basic marketing, and a studio executive would need to come up with a lot better reason than "we don't need it/people will figure it out" to justify not using it.

Someone at UPN thought Enterprise was a good title for a TV series, though, so anything is possible.

I fancy that I see a little Roddy McDowell in there, despite the absence of a wrinkling nose, but that's probably my imagination. ;) That said, this is not the facial structure of a real chimpanzee, either - some simian traits are diminished and some human (or hominid, at least) traits are emphasized.

I have zero interest in the film's story, but that short clip is really impressive. This would be one of those films I'd watch just for the effects.

It looks more like an early ancestor to human than the real deal

But apparently Caesar is being experimented(Alzheimer) and is mutating

Spooky!

Which in this case, of course, is good. :bolian:

This is the first case where I think the uncanny valley should be the goal.
