First footage from RoboCop reboot is here

That was decent trailer. I don't think this movie really needed to be made, but I'm open to it.
Did the original RoboCop need to be made?

Ok, no movie "needs" to be made. I just don't really feel any strong desire for another Robocop film.
Or a Spider-Man film. Or Superman film. Or TMNT. Yet we are getting them. ;)

So far abour Robocop, what's been shown, I like. Peaked my interest. Let's see how the upcoming reveals and finished product would look like.

But what is a "RoboCop film," anyway? The worth of a film is not in what character or world is in it, but in what's done with the character and the world. The different RoboCop movies used the concept and character in very different ways, with different intents. If this film uses the character and concept of RoboCop in a way analogous to what the original did, as a social commentary or satire on issues relevant to our time, then it could be worthwhile. If it's just a hollow excuse for action and gunplay and special effects like the sequel movies, then it probably won't be. So far, though, what I'm seeing and hearing about the film suggests to me that there's a fair chance it'll be closer to the former.

Yup, and lets face it, the message behind the original RoboCop is even more relevant today.

Cool viral video, it's making it hard to be annoyed at the unnecessary remake.

I'd argue we need this RoboCop reboot a hell of a lot more than we needed any of the original RoboCop's sequels.

This is precisely why I was supportive of the Trek reboot idea back in '08-09.

Despite the result, I'm still supportive of anyone who takes an established story and wants to take a new spin on it, provided they have anything to actually say.
