FIFA corruption arrests

Bought a sandwich today. The woman handed it to me and said....."there you go love"

Fortunately, i somehow managed to keep a lid on my anger and sense of injustice

It was a close call though

You know, when someone says "I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't refer to me that way," the correct response is not "let me explain to you why it's perfectly fine for me to refer to you however I please."

And had she simply asked me not to refer to her as love, I would have happily acquiesced. The issue was that she thought it might also contain an element of me being dismissive. I took the opportunity to explain that it genuinely wasn't.

Can I help you with anything else tonight?

This was you "genuinely" "explain[ing]" that you weren't being dismissive?

No, that was me explaining to Pingfah that the term "love" is not deliberately condescending in England

Anything else I can help you with?

 What's that about you not being dismissive or condescending?

This thread has helped me learn a lot about love and sandwiches.

I still don't know the proper time to refer to someone as "ducky" ---- or how any of this has anything to do with kicksphere.

Have I ever said that I'm not capable of being dismissive and condescending. Nope.

I simply said that this was not an instance of it

Do you have anything to say about the FIFA situation? Just curious as I haven't seen you on any of the football based threads before now

I bet hux is a hit with the ladies. The last woman that kissed him was probably his mom.

In other news, Chuck Blazer has just admitted in court that he accepted bribes for the France and South Africa World Cups.

France and South Africa are totally bent so really this is to be expected, I'm sure that upstanding countries like Russia and Qatar would never offer bribes to an organization so willing to take bribes.

My mother and I do have deeply erotic relationship, it's true
Well that's disgusting. I was referring to a harmless peck on the cheek being the pinnacle of your erotic experiences.

Taking it up a notch like that just makes you look desperate. :(

And you are?

Observing someone making a fool out of himself.

She never took it up the notch. We haven't got there yet

Observing someone making a fool out of himself.

Where did I make a fool of myself?

Oh man, you really are that oblivious. That's a shame.

Anyways, enough of that guy and back to FIFA:

Here's Chuck Blazer outlining in court how insanely corrupt he is:

The guilty pleas of former top Fifa official Chuck Blazer have been detailed with the release of papers from a 2013 hearing in New York.

He says that he and others on Fifa's executive committee agreed to accept bribes in conjunction with the choice of South Africa as 2010 World Cup host.

The American says he also accepted bribes over the 1998 event.

The US has launched a wide-ranging criminal case that engulfed Fifa and led President Sepp Blatter to resign.

The US prosecutors last week indicted 14 people on charges of bribery, racketeering and money laundering. Four others had already been charged, including Mr Blazer.

The US justice department alleges they accepted bribes and kickbacks estimated at more than $150m (£97m) over a 24-year period.

To be fair the bribe Blazer mentions with regard to 1998 came from Morrocco re their bid, not France. Sooner or later evidence about Qatar at the very least is going to come out, if not Russia.

Have to wait and see what new evidence emerges, but it could get very interesting if it was proven that members recieved bribes to vote for certain countries. After all the losing nations could mount a legal action against FIFA. After all they had the reasonable expectation that the process would be fair.

It looks more and move like an avalanche as each day new, damaging information is revealed.

I would be greatly surprised if Blatter comes through this without being at least arrested, if not charged for bribery, money laundering or whatnot.

What i find strange though is that it took an american police organization to finally take some effective steps against an organization that's not of huge interest to americans in general (i assume Football is still far below American Football, Basketball and Baseball).

However i sincerely doubt the World Cups in Russia and Quatar will be affected by that. Long term deals in the billion range can't be changed overnight and i would not know who could force Fifa to cancel these World Cups and begin the bidding again.

The most interesting thing to me is how Fifa will be changed by this, as a pessimist in these cases i certainly don't expect much but now that the curtains have been torn down it may be inevitable for profound changes.

Personally i'm smiling from ear to ear that corruption for once is being dealt with, it just depends who will be caught in this too and if something good comes out of it.

Iwould tend to agree, I think that the World Cup in Russia will definantly go ahead as for Qatar I would say that's 90% likely to go ahead.

I'll be amazed if Qatar goes ahead, but similarly I'll be amazed if Russia doesn't.

This puts an interesting spin on things though I'm not sure how much of it is credible, I hadn't realised that Blatter hadn't voted for Qatar.

Well they are investigating breaches of American law, so it's not really surprising they are taking action, they certainly have the right.

The fact that FIFA doesn't hold the American government in thrall as it does many other countries is probably one of the reasons why it is them doing it.
