No timed exclusivity. No delays.

Final Fantasy XIII is coming to both the PS3 and 360. On the same day.

BAM.

Great news for 360 owners and fans of the Final Fantasy series.
M$ has dealt another blow to Sony.

I can honestly say for me though, I could care less.
I've never played a FF game and probably never will.

Cant really blame them, if i were a game Dev i would certainly want my games to sell as many copies as possible, and a mutiplatform release is the way to do it, and with the upcoming update to allow 360 games to be installed onto the 360 HD it looks like they have negated the who getting up and changing the disc issue that will come with games on multiple discs.

And bottom line, the attach rate still pretty much says it all.

And so the time has come. I will open my wallet further to buy the glorious Xbox 360.

I remember some whisperings about FFXIII being on multi-platforms but was quickly dismissed. Wonderful news!

It won't sell on the 360...
Same with other RPG's...
And the game being multidisc might be one of the reasons why it won't sell on the 360...

Ultimately, it's just depends on if the deal Sony was giving them to stay exclusive was no longer good enough compared to how much they would make if they were multiplatform/how much MS was offering them. The only reason for any game to be exclusive is money.

Where do you get the idea that RPGs do not sell on the 360? Both Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion sold very well. Xbox owners are more than willing to buy a RPG if they are quality games.

I am not a huge final fantasy fan but I did play FFX and Lost Odyssey which felt like a FF game. If I like what I see, I wouldnt have hesitation in buying FFXIII

Bollocks...

Same with other RPG's...

Absolute nonsense...

Last I checked - Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Mass Effect and Eternal Sonata were selling perfectly well on the system. Oh, and Oblivion is one of its best selling titles period.

And the game being multidisc might be one of the reasons why it won't sell on the 360...

Firstly, nobody knows how many discs it will ship on. Secondly, the aforementioned Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are multi disc titles. So please refrain from talking out of your arse, and remove Sony's cock from your throat kthx.

thats not true, just one example, Lost Odyseey sold well and that was on 4 discs (posted above but needs to be said again)

Whoa there dude...
Take a chill pill...

I had the impression that Japanese games didn't sell that well on the 360 compared to Japanese games on the PS3...
So i was talking about J-rpgs...
But that was mostly based on Ridge Racer bombing on 360...

And if you get a warning it's not because of me, i'm not that easily vexed...

^

I was unaware that Ridge Racer was a jRPG.

Also, since the PS3 is the dominant of the two in Japan by a very significant margin (millions vs a few hundred thousand units sold), it is hardly surprising that Japanese games do better on the ps3.

But no, you said:

It won't sell on the 360...
Same with other RPG's...

...which is patently untrue.

Let me add my voice to those that think FF will do well on 360.
I have 7 personal friends that have 360’s and two of us won’t buy it.
The other 5 totally flipped out when they heard the news.
I'm sure each of us can say the same thing.

Because of the attach rate I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it does just as well or better on the 360.

Never played any of these games myself but i think it will sell like hotcakes on the 360.

As a Game Designer, I fell obligated to add to this discussion.

1.) Final Fantasy games always do well, regardless of the system.

2.) Considering how poorly the PS3 has done in North America compared to Wii and 360, it's not a surprise that SquareEnix decided to go multi-platform.

3.) This isn't the first time Sony didn't have the Final Fantasy series all to themselves. I do believe that FF7, FF8 & FF9 were all ported to PC.

4.) This game will be multi-disc. I know this because all of the FF games have been multi-disc since they switched from cartridges on FF7.

5.) Square Enix can do whatever they want with Final Fantasy. I won't be buying this title for any system. It will take too long to complete and RPG's require to much of a learning curve for my taste.

Good points, but:

Whether you're a game designer or not is irrelevant. Unless you work for Square Enix, that is. ;)

Also, FF11 was out on 360 too, and there have been numerous spin offs on other platforms, namely the Crystal Chronicles series on the Gamecube and Chocobo Tales on DS.

But, though it has graced other systems, it has been one of the Playstation brand's big franchises for a long time and losing this exclusivity is a blow to them. Remember, before Monday it was officially a PS3 only title.

4.) This game will be multi-disc. I know this because all of the FF games have been multi-disc since they switched from cartridges on FF7.
I think it's reasonable to assume that it's multi-disc on the 360, but I doubt it needs 25gb, so I'm willing to bet it'll be single disc on the PS3. But the very nature of Final Fantasy games means swapping discs every 15 hours of gameplay really won't be an issue.

5.) Square Enix can do whatever they want with Final Fantasy.
Indeed, it is their game. :vulcan:

It will take too long to complete and RPG's require to much of a learning curve for my taste.
You're a game developer who doesn't appreciate longevity or depth? oooook

Longevity is the same as depth now, is it? ;)

Also FF11, being an MMO, is in a totally different space then the rest of the series so it isn't really comparable in terms of platform exclusivity. As to multidisc... well, MGS4 showed that cramming all that content onto a single disc doesn't necessarily get you anything. I'd say that sitting through an install screen in the middle of the game is worse then disc changing.
