It was nicely done. However they could have given the last dialogue to Sisko and Jake, Sisko coming back to Jake to talk about where he was now. That would have been a nice bookend with the Jake fishing in the holodeck scene in the pilot.
I see where you're coming from, and I agree somewhat. I think it fits Quark better only because he has been on the station longer than anyone, even Odo.
I would have preferred he have a vision and talk to Jake, too, but one thing makes me feel it was not an oversight.
He remembers those flashes into Jake's future in "THE VISITOR", and despite that future not being accurate anymore, he has some sense of knowing Jake will have a good future. (A career, a wife, being happy, etc.) Which I think is why he talked to Kasidy instead of Jake... her future and their baby's future is unknown to him.
It also somewhat explains why in "CHILDREN OF TIME", it was O'Brien who was vehemently against going back in time instead of Sisko, despite them both having kids. Until O'Brien worked in the fields with new Molly, and went to Sisko and Sisko didn't even put up an argument about going back to the station.
Your version is a nice thought and I think it would have worked, as well.
