Favorite DS9 guest characters who were only in a single episode or 2 parter?

DS9 is famous for it's huge supporting cast of characters who weren't all serious regulars. I was wondering who are some characters you enjoyed who weren't as important as a Garak,Dukat,Rom etc.,? I will list five:

1 Arman Maritiza from "Duet." "Duet" might be the best DS9 episode of all time and he would deserve plenty of credit for it. He is both great as a villian and as a broken man who is sad because of what he experienced.

2 Tosk. I forget the name of he episode buy he was the alien who was prey for a hunting species and maybe one of the more "alien" of alien characters in modern Trek. I liked the bond he formed with Chief O'Brien.

3 Mirror Universe Sisko. We only saw him once but it was the best of the mirror universe stories. I liked how his swagger was used to cover up his pain of being a victim just like the slaves working in ore processing.

4 The Cardissian who was killing people in Kira's former terrorist cell and was going to kill her and even gut her to take the O'briens baby out and raise it. He was only in a few scenes but he was memorable to me.

5 I'm going to cheat a little and list Doctor Mora. I know he was in 2 episodes but he hardly felt like a reacurring character. James Sloyan might be one of them ore underated Trek actors ever to work on the shows. He was brilliant as always. I also think by just seeing this guy, answers alot in terms of why Odo was the way he was.

Of your list, my vote goes to the guy who played Arman Maritiza (Harris Yulin). In my opinion he is a very underrated actor. As a massive Ghostbusters fan, he stood out in Ghostbusters 2 as the court judge, which was one of my favorite (many) parts of the movie. Overall, "Duet" was one of the best DS9 episodes from my point of view.

I liked the actor who played Doctor Mora, better as the Romulan defector in that TNG episode. He was great too as Odo 's "doctor". As you said, I also feel that Sloyan is underrated.


I really wish we had more time with Doctor Bashir's genetically enhanced "friends". All 4 of them were very interesting.

Edit: I am seeing a lot of great answers to characters, I wish I thought of. I would like to add Vic Fontaine. I liked him with his dealing with Rom after he lost his leg.

 

[Bad Thoughts]

Lilyan Chauvin had seven lines as Vedek Yassim, and she dominated her episode. Easily my favorite one-off performance.

A difficult choice to find favorites, but here are some of mine:

1. Subcommander T'Rul - would have been a great opportunity for us to explore Romulans in a more everyday setting.
2. Sirella - I loved Shannon Cochran's performance. A missed opportunity to show more about Klingon family/civilian life.
3. Tom Riker - whatever happened to him?
4. General Krim. He had great chemistry with Sisko.

[Farscape One]

There were so many. DS9 had a great casting department.

Here are some of my picks...

"CAPTIVE PURSUIT" - Tosk, played by Scott MacDonald. He is one of a few actors who has appeared in every spinoff, and it is easy to see why here. I loved his take on our first encounter with a Gamma Quadrant alien.

"PROGRESS" - Mullibok, played by Brian Keith. The chemistry between him and Kira was outstanding. Definitely one of the hightlights of season 1.

"DUET" - Amin Marritza, played Harris Yulin. Anyone who has seen this episode, I don't need to explain why this is on my list.

"THE CIRCLE"/"THE SIEGE" - General Krim, played by Stephen Macht. I thought his portrayal was excellent... he actually made me somewhat root for him during the final part of the trilogy. Truly seemed like an honorable soldier. I can definitely see why he was a finalist for the role of Captain Picard. (I've also seen him on other shows.)

"INVASIVE PROCEDURES" - Verad, played by John Glover. Well acted, and not surprising considering all the other roles I havd seen him do. (Such as Lionel Luthor on SMALLVILLE, the alien in 80s THE TWILIGHT ZONE episode "A SMALL TALENT FOR WAR", and one of the two best portrayals of the devil I have ever seen on the series BRIMSTONE.)

"SECOND SKIN"/"TIES OF BLOOD AND WATER" - Tekeny Ghemor, played by Lawrence Pressman. His portrayal really made me wish we got more appearances of him.

"FAMILY BUSINESS" - Ishka, played by Andrea Martin. Even though her character appeared several more times, this was the only appearance by Andrea. Even though I enjoyed Cecily Adams' portrayal, Andrea's stood out much more for me.

"THE VISITOR" - Tony Todd as old Jake. I don't have to explain this one.

"TO THE DEATH" - Omet'iklan. Clarence Williams III gave an outstanding performance as this Jem'Hadar, and this episode brought one of the best insights into that species.

"THE DARKNESS AND THE LIGHT" - Silarin Prin, played by Randy Oglesby. Another actor who has been on every spinoff, I thought his scenes were excellent. Very much what Kira coukd have turned into had things gone a little differently in her life.

"IN THE CARDS" - Dr. Elias Giger, played by Brian Markinson. His character was so off the wall, but he did it in such a way that he could be taken seriously and not at the exact same time.

"ROCKS AND SHOALS" - Ramat'iklan, played by Phil Morris. Loved his scenes with Sisko, particularly their final talk. He shows that the Jem'Hadar are an almost tragic race.

"STATISTICAL PROBABILITIES"/"CHRYSALIS" - the Jack Pack. They were so zany, and a refreshing new look at some other types of humans that exist in the 24th century.

I got a few more I loved:

The Bajoran thug that worked for Dukat in the episode were Kira goes back in time to meet her mom. This guy might be just as bad a Dukat any of the Carddisians who abused the Bajoran people and maybe worse in that he was Bajoran.

the O'Brien changling in the "Homefront" 2 parter. Only one single scene and he is still a highlight of those episodes to me. Colm Meaney did a great job and I loved the dart reference which is kind of chilling because it makes you wonder how he would have such inside info on a man he is pretending to be, even though he has most likely never meet him in real life.

O'Brien's lawyer from "The Trial" Great comic performance and just a nifty idea of having a lawyer who never wins and never expects to win and doesn't even want to win because that isn't his role in society.

Some performances that should not be overlooked:

Anne Haney and Judge Renora, the cantankerous judge overseeing the extradition hearing in Dax
Fritz Weaver as Kovat, O'Brien's sniveling advocate in Tribunal, who can't extract himself from the corrupt Cardassian legal system
Tricia O'Neill as Korinas, the Obsidian Order observer in Defiant
Tracy Scoggins as Gilora, who almost seduces the Chief
Scott MacDonald, this time as Goran'Agar, who is trying to ween his Jem'hadar crew off the white in Hippocratic Oath
Ron Canada as Ch'Pok, the Klingon attorney seeking Worf's extradition in Rules of Engagement
Jack Lessing as Dulmur, one of the two temporal investigators without personalities in Trials and Tribbleations
Brian George and Fadwa al Guindi as Bashir's parents in Doctor Bashir, I Presume, whose performances get too overlooked because some people have hangups about the story itself
Stephen McHattie and Howard Shangraw as Vreenak and Grathon Tolar, two of the most chilling performances in Trek in In the Pale Moonlight
Neil Vipond as Darok, Martok's attache and, perhaps, conscience in Once More Unto the Breach

The guest performances in Past Tense and Little Green Men were excellent, particularly Megan Gallagher and Bill Smitrovich.

Definitely agree about Tracy Scoggins. She was also VERY attractive as a Cardassian. (Which can be said about every role I have seen her in.)
