FAR CRY 2 - anybody playing?

Dead Space may indeed look average and derivative from the trailers - but it simply is not.

The camera performs very well and the shooting is fantastic, tactile, and frantic - you can't just pump your enemies full of bullets (because you simply don't have any to spare) and you must carefully dissect them limb from limb as they're crawling after you - it's fucking awesome.

Seriously - the game is absolutely phenomenal, I really, really recommend at least giving it a shot (why not just rent it if you're not sold on buying it?)

Don't take my word for it, anyway...

That statement alone is probably enough to make me pass. That was one of the things that I disliked about Bioshock, the constant feeling of being out of ammo.

I hate dropping games when I'm in the middle of them

I'm generally the same way. In fact, I don't know why I'm like this, but usually if I stop a game midway through, to start something else, I don't ever go back.

I'm like that way with pretty much anything with a story. Books, tv shows, games... if I stop in the middle somewhere I have a really hard time getting back into it later.

No where near me that rent games maybe one place but not getting a membership for one game though I could do what I did with Far Cry 2. I wanted to make sure there was no problems with Far Cry 2 playing on the system am getting on Tuesday so got a friend to download it tried it for 10 minutes then uninstalled it after being satisfied (this is why all games shud have demo's IMO).

I love horror games and F.E.A.R was the best game I ever played when it came out but I felt there was too much linear action which took away from the quiet spooky bits.

What I want in a horror game is good action but not just throwing enemies at you every 20 seconds, I want a non linear game that builds up the atmosphere like the older Silent Hill games and I want an emeny that while scary and challenging does not require 10 minutes and half my ammo to take down ;)

oh and while am being greedy CO-OP...dam CO-OP in horror game is just the best.

EA game right ? I just liked Army of Two surly I can't like two EA games in a row...The Universe might explode :p

I got Far Cry 2 the night before last, and am really enjoying it so far. Game play is pretty deep, good mix of mission based and open world, excellent graphics. I tossed a Molotov Cocktail into the savannah by accident and set half the area on fire, including a tree. Having fun with it so far.

Just finished the game. The groundwork for a great game is all there. The health system is great. The buddy system is interesting. The weapons system is great. The game looks great during daytime and in the rain (night has crappy ambient lighting). The loadless and free roaming is great. The engine is great and runs fine at 1920x1200 with 2xAA and very high settings.

But, there just isn't as much content as there should be. There isn't a single free roaming civilian or refugee. The removal of the predators, like lions, makes the dead space between checkpoints a bit boring. There isn't much in the way of radio, newspapers, or side content to flesh out the story. Also, the faction system is pretty much useless.

With another year or six months of only story and content development, this game could have been truly amazing. Glad I played it though.

Just finished the game??

Man it took me well over a week at a few hours (maybe more) a night to beat the first one.
Is it that short?

Beat it on my third day by doing all the missions. If I had done only the neccessary missions, I probably could have finished it in a day (maybe 6 hours or so).

I bought Far Cry 2 last week, but it's staying unopened until I finish Fable 2, at least. With Fallout 3 coming out tomorrow, it's probably going to get put off until I finish playing that, as well. So, it's going to be awhile.

I'll check out Dead Space after I'm done with those three. :p

I caved and downloaded it on Steam.

I agree with the previous poster that the game looks fantastic during the day (max settings 1680x1050 2xAA) - gorgeous lighting and textures that nearly (not completely, though) approach Crysis level quality (with far better performance). It looks pretty underwhelming at night, though.

I generally like the feel of the gunplay and I like the sandbox nature of the game.

But ... meh, I don't know, I'm kindof bored by it already and I don't really care to know what happens next. I am still early in the game though, so maybe my interest will go up ...

but I'm setting the game aside for a while so that I can play Fallout 3 ...

Got spoiled by Dead Space didn't ya?

Sure as hell did. That game never once became uninteresting.

Yeah, me too.
That's why I want to roll from Dead Space to Fallout 3 then Gears Of War 2.
By the time I get to my vacation (mid December) I should be into Call of Duty 5 and Left 4 Dead.

Yeah .. if this were any other month I'd recommend not skipping Far Cry 2.

but with all of these games coming out ... yeah, skip it. It's really not all that special.

I got the GameStop version that is supposed to be a few hrs longer, gosh I hope so.

I've played about 4 hours worth, can't really pull myself away from Fable 2 tbh.

But it's good. Very good. And I'm really not fussed about FPSs (apart from Half Life 2). It's also pretty damn relentless. One thing that annoys me is the abundance of checkpoints on the roads, meaning you have to fight your way to every mission, and fight your way back because they have this irritating habit of respawning within 2 minutes.

Still, it's a great shooter with lots of shooting to do.

I'll probably go back to it when I've played Fable 2 and Fallout 3 to death.
