Fallout 4

Jesus Christ, it's gonna take me years to finish this game .

I only went about in the local neighborhood, shot up some Feral Ghouls and then started cleaning up Sanctuary and building some stuff for the few people that are already there.

One small nitpick for the PC version.. control layout is a bit wonky. I have to switch so many times between keyboard and mouse that's it's not fun scrapping all the small stuff from a house to make room for beds and such. Might have to adapt the controls if at all possible.

Oh, hell, yeah. I was building up Sanctuary a little bit for the few folk I had there, and then, just today, I started going hog wild trying to actually civilize the place. Tearing down old houses, clearing up the dead trees, non-functioning street lights, and just about everything I didn't think was necessary...and of course, you get the materials back for scrapping such things. I've been trying to organize a "power grid" so to speak. Right now, my Sanctuary is thriving pretty well. I'll help out other settlements if I can get to them, as far as defending them goes, but my focus is Sanctuary Hills.

I have a weapons emporium, too. Trying to save up bottle caps to get a restaurant going as well.

Building up a settlement is sort of a game unto itself. :)

Funny thing is, my go-to settlement at the moment is actually Hangman's Alley, a cramped, shitty little alley NW of Diamond City. I've been slumming around downtown Boston the past few days, so I always dump off all my junk and craft at the alley. You can buy a house in Diamond City, but you can't set up a supply line to it, so it may as well be completely worthless. Someone better fix that with a mod ASAP.

My favorite is when dead guys don't seem like they're dead because the physics engine is going crazy about something they are in contact with, so they just keep twitching and moving on the ground.

Someone could probably make a legit horror game with Bethesda physics.

True but otherwise preeeetty accurate.

Also accurate.

OMG, it's the Human Clockwork Blaster.

DMG -- 25
Effects: Instantly turns victim into a clock, that runs in reverse.

:D

Heh... for my character, Heather, I have the Grognak the Barbarian costume, which is about the closest I'll seem to get to having her dressed like her default outfit in Silent Hill 3. I've also slapped on some cool personal armor that allows her to carrry more, stabilize scoped aiming, and move a bit more stealthily. Also made some major modifications to my Power Armor. Now I'm just waiting to build up the stats for my torso to have Stealth Boy capability. (I've been agonizing the choice between that, or Jump Jet Pack.)

I restarted the game. I am playing my character as a master self-sufficient craftsperson. I am concentrating on those perks needed for crafting: Armorer, Demolition Expert, Science!, Gun Nut, and Chemist. The only one of the crafting skills I will not be developing in the near future is Blacksmith, which is for melee weapons. As I prefer negotiation over combat, I am putting points into charisma. The remaining points will go into enhancing those traits I need most, like surviving in the wilderness, using guns and explosives, and unlocking locks and terminals.

Of the settlements, I do not like what is provided for building structures. The choices are limited and do not make sense. I can build a two-story structure; however, the columns that would support the second floor are not included with the shack upper story floor. Huh? How does the second story not fall onto the people below?

When it comes to settlements, I will be using the pre-existing structures and what is available at the site.

Yes, now the negotiation approach is a neat way to play the game. Sadly, not everyone in the wasteland is so open minded. But, with the high charisma you seek, you will probably get more favorable results from those you might bargain/barter with.

I, too, try negotiation over violence whenever possible. I like to think of my character as not having to engage in combat unless she has to.... but, when she highlights a target, and they show red, it's no mercy time. However, I did have an amusing outcome in one scenario where I scared a bad guy's henchman into not even choosing to engage me in battle. That just left it down to me and the main bad guy. Most amusing. :D

Another thing I love about this game is that you don't have to maintain your weapons like you did in Fallout 3/NV. The only thing you have to do (if you desire) is upgrade or dismantle (or sell).

Has anyone else experimented with the charisma pacify perks? It's so amusing using it on a super mutant and hearing the Sole Survivor go "STOP! Human. Is. Friend!" :D

Been thinking about unlocking some pacify perks. :)

Now, I've been running into some glitches it would seem.
I fended off a Yao Guai attack on Sanctuary Hills, and now, all my shop keepers in the settlement can seem to say to me is: "Thanks for fending them off." It won't open up the barter prompt. Grrrrr....

Maybe when I return there later.

I've been playing Fallout since the third one. I knew of the first two back when they came out, but I just wasn't into that type of game. When it became an FPS I was more interested. Fallout 3 ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. Didn't get as into New Vegas, but I still loved it.

So Fallout 4 has been at the top of my anticipation list since its announcement. I tried to avoid anything aside from the trailers so I wouldn't be spoiled. After playing for a week here are my thoughts:

These are just streams of thought. I'm sure I'm missing some things, but I'm just typing these up as they come to me.
PROS:
-Graphically superior to the previous two games. I know 4 has received some criticism about the graphics, but you can't deny that they do look way better than 3 and New Vegas. I'm not complaining.
-Love the perk setup. One thing I wasn't a fan of was distributing the skill points every time you leveled up. This is far easier and without a level cap there are no worries about losing out on some perks.
-Exploration is as great as it always was. One of the top things I love about the Fallout games is just walking around, not knowing what you are going to come across. I tend to get sidetracked real easily.
-Settlements. I heard about creating settlements very briefly before the game came out, but paid it no mind. Once I got into it in the game, it's slowly been growing on me. I just got the perk that lets you create supply lines so I hope to do more than just set up Sanctuary Hills.
-Crafting/Modding weapons and armor. Collecting junk has become a pastime at this point. In the previous games I completely ignored junk, but now every little thing you come across is valuable. I love modding weapons. I have a double-barreled shotgun that I've named "The Terminator". He's my pride and joy.

CONS:
-This can't be stated enough: The dialogue system. At first I kind of liked the Mass Effect style, but the more I play, the more I miss Fallout 3/New Vegas style. So many more choices depending on the type of person you were playing as and you actually knew what you were going to say. I do love hearing the player actually talking, though.
-This isn't so much a con as it is a request. I've really enjoyed the linear questlines for the games so far, but it really would be great to have more opportunities to role play. Like giving you a choice to be a vault dweller, or a ghoul, or a raider and create your own storyline. Maybe if an MMO is ever made that can happen.

That's about all I can think of for now. Not much bad to say about the game at this point. I always enjoy playing a Fallout game and this one is no exception.

That's a good summation of the game, Toxteth. :)

I have a couple of P&J weapons as well. A Chinese Officer's Sword that's does electrical and stun damage, and is quite handy in CQC situations.

I also have a Recon scoped .50 Caliber sniper rifle that is good for tagging, and then picking off enemies from afar to try and soften up the target site for when I move in.

I enjoy the modification system in the game, and there are times when I'm like "Oh, yeah, this weapon can be suppressed! Whaaaat?! Gun nut 4?!"

Heh, I'm trying to get to a modification for my Power Armor, and I have to be at a certain level to get to the perk level I want to hit. :). Gaaaaaahhh!

Decided to take a little break from my crafting character, as all the looting was just becoming downright tedious. Rolled a new character with starting charisma of 9, raised it to 10 with the SPECIAL book, and took Intimidation for my first perk. She'll be focusing on stealth and handguns, and I want to try and get the unique silenced pistol, Deliverer, ASAP. I'll also be doing a bare minimum of crafting. If there's something I want to make, I'll just flag the components and search for them. No more hoarding. Just finished the Corvega plant. Snuck in through the pipe, made my way to the guarded elevator, pacified the guard, relieved him of his ammo and went up the elevator, hacked the securitron in assembly room which immediately gunned down the raider leader. Mission accomplished. :techman:

I love games like this.... ones that let you decide how you want your character and story to progress. This game is more of "become legend" than Destiny ever thought of having you become. :) I mean, you can tell your tales to your friends and get a good laugh or hell yeah... Destiny? Not so much.

This mod might be of interest to you: Full Dialogue Interface

It replaces the limited dialogue tree with a FO3/NV style list that shows the whole line of dialogue, so you know exactly what you're about to say.

Can't, I'm playing on PS4. I'll definitely remember it when I eventually get the game on Steam for $5 during a summer sale.
