I went back through the conversation and I'm not sure what the original point is regarding new species. Could you spell it out for me?

Well, then in that case there weren't that many of them in the other shows either.

That DS9 only bothered really fleshing out characters from existing alien species TOS and TNG had already introduced, or from the Dominion Aliens.

Therefore Voyager shouldn't get insulted for not being able to flesh out dozens of alien species over its run, especially since the premise meant they'd never be able to anyways.

...Okay? I don't get why it's a problem to only flesh out species that already exist, and to also invent three new species and explore them, but I'll grant you that.

Edit: Actually no need to answer. I just realized that all we're doing is picking at little things that don't prove anything. The OP said that VOY gets excessive amounts of criticism, I disagree.

This is one of the things that excites me about Discovery is that we might actually explore some TOS aliens who were only briefly seen.

Um, they don't. In my opinion, VOY fleshed out plenty of aliens, and, I think, gave us more memorable ones in even brief times. The Viidians were particularly well done, as were the Hirogen.

Who did this? I've been trying to figure out but I can recall the Hirogen being lauded, Species 8472 being celebrated in TV Guide, and Star Trek magazines, and the like.
