Evidence of SNW being a possible alternate timeline from TOS

I think there’s the difference between in-universe retcons and retcon, retcons at play as well. Strange New Worlds is the latest installment of canon and thus it supercedes previous canon like the fact Captain Kirk didn’t know Captain Pike at all but clearly the two of them are close enough to have been considered friends. Certainly more than, “they met at his promotion to fleet captain.” Now that line only works if we assume Kirk was lying for some reason.
However, I’m comfortable also with the idea that retcons in-universe aren’t a bad thing either and that may be due to the fact I’m acclimated to it from so much comic book superhero literature I’ve written and consumed over the years. The writers saying, “It used to be this way and now it isn’t due to shenanigans” isn’t something I hate even if it sometimes can be annoying. It’s why I always thought they should do more with Enterprise’s Temporal Cold

I always(like even 30 years ago) figured they had been a little closer than what he said, when he first addresses Pike as Chris, and actually talks to him like he's a Friend.
And they were careful to have Kirk in the Prime timeline first meet Pike when he's temporarily Fleet Captain. Before that, they were in the alternate timeline with Kirk in command of the Farragut.
Also, Kirk never said that he only met Pike once, despite a lot of people claiming the contrary. He says "We met when he was promoted to Fleet Captain".
yeah, I mean, I have my own little nitpicks, I think the Gorn is one of mine. but I can flex to a certain extent.

But the thing about Kirk NOT knowing Pike, I cant comprehend that, I mean I thought it was clear they knew each other enough to be on a first name bases. I don't' think Kirk had any obligation to tell Mendez "The whole story"
seeing Jimbo show up constantly, has been a little annoying. but the whole Pike knowing Kirk thing has yet to bother me.
when it comes to Trek, and I'm talking about the entirety of it.
I look at Canon as being sort of "Broad Strokes Canon" some things I accept because they fit into the time it was made.
kind of how the Consoles and monitors in the first 6 films changed over the course of the first 6 films, just as real life tech changed.
things changed from TNG through Voyager the same way.
Sure I would like to have seen a stricter adherence to what has been established, and I think it could have been done while still taking license.
But I never expected a Prequel Show to be so painstakingly done.
I'm very interested to see how it's all wrapped up, and I'm interested to see how hard they try to have it fit by the end, while still retaining this shows identity.
I sometimes think about the Prequel film they originally planned for Part 6, if it had been made, I'm sure there would have been some pieces of continuity that didn't fit quite so nicely.
if I could accept how different Zefram Cochran was 30 years ago in First Contact, then there are a lot of things I can accept now.
but I certainly have my little nitpicks and my WTF moments.
these days I'm trying to keep a sense of humor about it, between both sides of my family, there have been 8 people pass away from health problems since October of last year. Life just too short to take it all too seriously.
I try to enjoy what I can.

The only Star Trek productions that are deliberately set and meant to be in an alternate timeline are the Abrams movies.
Every TV series and the first ten movies are all in the Prime Universe.

they could all be in the "prime universe" (the same universal space and fabric and frequency) but that does NOT mean that all of them are in the same timeline, which has been rewritten repeatedly.

Here's the thing for me: this show could be painstakingly researched and recreate the TOS sets, uniforms and make up and the characters could end up dull and I wouldn't care.
But, this show has interesting characters. That's the important part.
That makes as much sense as arguing about whether the Thing of the Hulk would win in a fight. It's a meaningless statement.
"Universal space and fabric and frequency" doesn't mean anything.
The single narrative of the Prime timeline, as recognized by the people who create Trek, has several loops in it. One is the Edith Keeler event, another is shown in "Yesterday's Enterprise."
Oh, and "Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow," when La'An and Kirk corrected the Eugenics War events.

The timeline having elements altered is the same timeline.
Basically, it's Back to the Future rules.
There's one timeline (at least as far as know) but it goes like this:
1. Star Trek: TOS: Marty McFly's parents are a bunch of losers.
2. Romulans go back in Time, Temporal Cold War, and so on
3. Star Trek: SNW: Marty's parents are a highly successful author and happy

Kirk calls him 'Chris' in the episode, that seems to imply more familiarity than just meeting during the promotion.
Also when Kirk did first meet Pike in SNW, he was a fleet captain.
