Evidence of SNW being a possible alternate timeline from TOS

[Nebulous post begins]

My own view of trek, used to be very linear, and ‘must-line-up’ - however, the longer I’ve engaged with Star Trek over the years, I’ve become less concerned by changes, and have now reached a place where it’s no longer as important or relevant to me.

Tl;Dr - I’m now open to most forms of Trek, and my yardstick to measure ‘good’ Trek by is by it having engaging characters, good writing, is enjoyable, and also fun - in summary: it entertains me (and where possible, also showcasing cool starships going pew-pew, as I love me some good starship action!).

As long as those boxes are checked, I’m generally good - however, even if not, I can still usually find something to enjoy about it.

Yes, like all those robin hood films...they all differ.
And what about real history?

There have been at least twelve Hollywood movies about the shootout between the Earps and Clantons at the OK corral - every one of them different. Different stories, completely different versions of the characters, different everything.

This is a rather famous historical occurrence about which most of the facts are known. And no one cares.

You're mistaken.

It is all the same thing because it's all Star Trek. Every distinction and line that fans feel the need to draw between the versions is nothing more than some weird sorting and accounting exercise.

Hey, I'm just doing what Trek fans have always done. Come up with an explanation for something that I find out of kilter. The worst thing of it all is that it is a waste of pretty talented young actors to run them into the brick wall of TOS.

Ok, but that has little effect on the main point I made—no one back then would have behaved towards the various inconsistencies of Trek (within or across seasons) in any manner close to what you described/implied in an earlier post. It’s a faulty premise.
I'm actually surprised that people are genuinely claiming that SNW is an alternate timeline so I wouldn't be so sure. I feel that the points made in regards to SNW's alternative continuity status are as minor as the contradictions in TOS. Sure I point them out (like the Spock never melded with a human before) but even then I rationalize it as being certain types of mind melds, but it seems others on here take it a lot more seriously, so I feel I have every right to assume they may have done the same back then.

You aren't even watching the damned show. How would you know?

You have the right to assume anything you want. You shouldn’t expect others to necessarily agree with your assumptions when the available evidence points strongly to a different (in this case quite contrary) conclusion.

And not just that, but the writers are vocal about making as much of it line up as possible (which they wouldn't do if they didn't want or need to) and, even more importantly, the producers tell us it's the same and all of this leads into a show that's about to turn 60 years old. Works for me, some visual stuff aside.

I find it just as surprising that anyone could even humor the thought that it is supposed to be the same timeline.

Sixty years is a long time. We've changed so much. SNW simply doesn't remind me of TOS. If you stripped away the names, I'd have a hard time telling it was supposed to be related.

That's me. I think it is cool some folks can make it work. I can't.

This.

I can sort it several different ways but ultimately I'm watching a show and enjoying. That it can connect on to Pike is bonus points but taking it all together is a tapestry of fun.

If the internet existed in the 1960s it probably would have collapsed under the sheer anger of Trek fans when halfway through the first season they stopped referring to the Enterprise as an Earth ship and as a Federation ship instead.

Starting with Season 2's Amok Time, the fans if an internet existed would've declared that T'Pring's existence and the rest of season 2 is an alternate timeline because last season said that Spock was free to date Leila Kalomi, then suddenly there's this fiancee since childhood?

I don't even want to know what would have happened if there was an internet and Season 3 started with Spock's Brain, and then a bunch of other episodes that even the cast said was the worst season.
I'm still looking at my above post wondering where I allegedly "expected others" to agree to anything. I never presumed that anyone else was making the statements that I was making about theoretical people in the 1960s. I did assume that if the internet existed then, those theoretical people would have done those things, which is very different from me actually expecting other real people to agree to anything.
