I meant to post this earlier this week but I've been busy with a move. I'm planning to see the film either today or this weekend!

Don't recall the last time I posted here, I haven't even lurked in a long time, but I really enjoyed the movie. Saw it in IMAX last night. Beautiful film. I loved the expansion of the MCU via the lore and galaxy-building, and the cataclysmic effect on the Earth that can't be glazed over...they seem to have permanently altered the geography of the planet at the site of emergence.

Makkari and Druig were character highlights for me. The credit teasers were both tantalizing (especially the last one, as a Black Knight fan).

I could see casual viewers not being engaged by it. Lots of exposition, and not having any familiarity with the source material, or comics in general, could lend to being confused.

Can't wait to see where they go now!

I hope to see it tomorrow. I love the Eternals, and Sersi and the Black Knight are two of my favorite Marvel characters.

As I expected, the audience score is much higher than the critics score.

I don't pay attention to these things most of the time but shouldn't that be expected? I would expect paying audiences, especially early ones, to be people who are really interested in seeing the movie and would likely be inclined to respond more positively.

Saw it last night. While walking out of the theater, I overheard the folks in front of me discussing it. One said they absolutely loved it, the other that they had no idea what was happening. I think a lot of people are going to fall into one of those two camps.

I'd call it a really ambitious movie in terms of how much content it tries to pack in, with only partial successful at actually executing it.

And this isn't a complaint because what they went with *did* work in its own right, but almost every major change from the comics' Eternals lore was one that made them less interesting, conceptually.

I'm going into this almost exactly with the way I went into Guardians of the Galaxy - practically zero knowledge about the source material. So I'm hoping to have the same overwhelmingly positive reaction I did back then.

I enjoyed it. Definitely different from lots of other MCU films, but this is what the series needs at this point. Different takes on the same world. Not just same hero origins in every movie.

I really enjoyed it, great cast, with a good script, and a good story that took some interesting twists and turns. I saw it with my mom, who has come with me to see every MCU movie, and she said it was one of her favorites out of all of them.

At least with Guardians, I was familiar with one of the characters (Rocket). - That said, of the Marvel films, I'd only read comics that had a Stark in (Junior), Shang Chi and Rocket in, so the character I was most familiar with was The Hulk. I'd heard of the leads of most of the others, but not seen or read anything with them in.

Looking forward to checking this out.

It was meh. The ending infuriated me, though.

It's a pretty cool story and I enjoyed the jumping through time. I liked all the characters and enjoyed the performances. Certainly not a top tier Marvel film, but good on an AntMan level.

What? We are talking about a quite linear movie here. It's a Marvel flick after all. Not Tenet or whatever

Well, they did do a number of flashbacks to other times, so it wasn't exactly linear, but no it wasn't hard to follow. The ONLY Entetnals comics I ever read was the very first limited series run in the late 1970s (I was 12) - so yeah, the story here was new to me as about the only thing I knew was some of the character names, the Overmind (executed quite differently from what I remember) and in the comics the Celestials modified DNA to create mankind, and thr Deviants were remnants of previous attempts); so the Eternals just being here to kill predators so intelligent life could arise, all that was new to me.

I liked it, but I don't know if a general audience will find it interesting enough. I can see why your rank and file movie critic didn't like it much and hell, the ending surprised me in that it IS the type of ending you'd see in a multi issue comic story between issues.

    Overall I give it a A-.

Saw it this evening and really enjoyed it. Some of the Eternals stood out stronger than others with Sersi, Ikaris, Sprite, Druig for the former, Makkari, Gilgamesh, Ajax (essentially only appearing in flashbacks) for the latter...and I really wanted to see more of Makkari. Hopefully Makkari will get more to do in the sequel, although with the promise of more Eternals showing up (and not just Eros), I worry she won't.

I knew little about the Eternals beyond Neil Gaiman's run so I was delighted to see elements of his contributions included in the film such as the memory losses (albeit in a different manner), Druig's antagonistic relationship with his fellow Eternals regarding humans (although that might not be limited to Gaiman), using the Uni-Mind to put a Celestial on Earth to sleep (same Celestial, too, I believe), and probably a few others I'm forgetting at the moment. I also really enjoyed the grandness of Arishem's appearances that really gave him an otherwordly existence.

I love how the film addressed the elephant in the room at the end of the film: Lia McHugh is a teenager so obviously she's not done growing up (I've seen reports she's grown considerably already since the film) so Sersi uses her remaining energy from the Uni-Mind to turn Sprite into a human. The film doesn't address this but I'm curious to see if Sprite maintains her illusionary abilities.

I'm particularly curious to see how the world reacts to the appearance of the Celestial on Earth (and then frozen into place by Thena) and not just in the next Eternals film. I'm hoping it comes up some of the next few films.

One thing I was confused on: What was the point of Kingo leaving the group instead of helping with the Uni-Mind? I get he didn't want to face Arishem but it felt like nothing came from that decision. He simply disappeared from the film until the denouement...when he's forced to face Arishem anyways. Either way, it was a shame not to see him part of the Uni-Mind during the climax.

While I knew Harry Styles was going to show up in one of the mid/post-credits scenes (although a few people in my showing had no idea), I was genuinely surprised and delighted to see Patton Oswalt showing up as Pip the Troll! After all of that speculation that Peter Dinklage was going to be Pip in Infinity War (and I'm ultimately glad he wasn't), I'm glad Pip has finally arrived. And more Patton Oswalt the better!

I don't know much about the Black Knight so I was intrigued by the post-credits scene. I figured we wouldn't get much about Dane beyond a tease, but I was surprised we didn't see him pick up the sword...nor did I expect the audio cameo from Mahershala Ali (whose voice I recognized but couldn't place until I read about it later). I had no idea Blade had any connection with the Black Knight so that's whole new territory for me.

That gives Patton Oswalt the Marvel trifecta. Marvel Television, Marvel Animation and Marvel Studios.
