There's a reason episodes are made when they are made. If "In the Beginning" was intended to be watched first, it would have been made first.

Just remember that the gathering was a pilot film, and they made a lot of little changes for the series.

Also "The Gathering" was partially re-edited around 1997-98, and while it didn't change the story much there are different shots, and a few scenes have had their order changed, and the DVD 's contain the re-edited version. I think the original 1993 version is on iTunes.

As an update, I've made it up through The Parliament of Dreams and it is quite a good show so far. I'm glad I started watching it and I'm interested to see where it is going.

The Gathering was, as I said above, pretty damn bad and I'm glad the show runners made the changes they did. I would not have been able to get into a show if that was the quality of acting, directing, writing, and effects through the whole series.

They never got that to work so Delenn has the same voice in either version of the pilot. However Takashima sounds different.
