Janeway was about as out of character in Equinox 2, as she was in Night, locking herself in her ready room, and not talking to anyone for weeks.
I don't think Janeway was out-of-character anytime. She was just damn angry, that someone broke the Prime Directive and Starfleet principles. Well, maybe she was "too angry", but I do understand that. Starfleet was a big deal to her and she went angry, someone just abandoned everything Starfleet is, just to get home a little faster.
I may have mentioned this before here, but I'd really like to know how Ransom thought he'd explain what he'd done to Starfleet when he got home.
I mean, they'd want to know how he got home so quickly, would no doubt ask him about Voyager and the modifications to his own ship - not to mention the wibbly aliens that have chased him all the way to his front door...

Considering the scummy crap he did to try and get home, somehow I don't think lying would be that much of a stretch, and they'd probably stop off before getting to Earth to undo their modifications and dispose of any evidence.
Then he can just make up some mumbo jumbo about a wormhole etc.

Well, the aliens would still be chasing him. He'd have to explain them, because now, they'd be going for a whole planet full of humans!
And I'm pretty sure Starfleet wouldn't just 'buy' a wormhole story. They'd want to find the wormhole and use it.
