Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

I don't really see how The Rise of Skywalker can be that close to Return of the Jedi.

First, there's a lot to wrap up. No time to spend 35 minutes saving a character before actually really getting into the story. Second, thank God they didn't put somebody in carbonite at the end of TLJ.

Well they did kill Luke, maybe they are going to spend 36 minutes to bring him back to life ;)

I though The Last Jedi was very different from The Empire Strikes Back. Since it ended with things in a very place from TESB, I don't really see how The Rise of Skywalker can be that close to Return of the Jedi.

I thought the same thing, but many of my coworkers say TLJ is exactly the same as Empire... People see what they want I guess...

Rey is an agenda on screen

Cause she has boobs and not a penis?

Luke wasn't cut down in ESB by one of the greatest Jedi's/Sith of all time in Vader despite having no Saber to Saber experience and he wasn't even a Jedi really at that point. Main Characters always get away doing stuff they shouldn't be able too.

As for the trailer it was good because it really didn't give away the plot yet made me want to see more. It's a pity J.J didn't just do all 3 movies instead of the 2.

The real problem with what I see in the trailer is that none of the characters have agency at all
I don't see how you can tell that from this trailer, we don't have any idea what the main characters are even doing.

I can see where you could find some very basic similarities, but the difference vastly outnumber then once you go beyond the surface level.

Rey is not a Mary Sue. Period.

This is not going to change no matter how many times you throw that term at her.
*REY IS A MARY SUE LIST - Did I miss anything?*.

Having flaws disqualifies a character from being a Mary Sue. Flaws lead to negative results. What flaws does Rey has that lead to negative results? None.

Abandon children don’t grow up to be so naive and altruistic. You need at least a father and or mother and or master figure for that..

Abandon children grow up to be like Han Solo. Their tough up bringing makes them a bit selfish and the opposite of naive.

- Overpowered

- Unexplained Power Level

- Perfectly Good

- No Personality

- Instantly Liked

- Feels Like Wish Fulfilment

- Not Embarrassed/Fails

Independent woman who lives by herself in a desert planet..

No parenting needed.

Who raised her? Her boss? The Sand? Herself?.

Professional scavenger.

Lives quite happily by herself.

She never wanted to leave the plant (major hero’s journey fail).

She is quite hopefull despite living as a slave for all her life.

Very altruistic and naive even though she had no parenting and was abandoned as a child..

Can fight 2 men easily with no help required.

No scars or anything to show for her past fighting skills.

Helps a strange robot twice for no reason.

Helps Fin, another stranger.

Helps Han Solo lots of times.

Helps Leia.

Gets a hug from Leia when they barely know each other..

Helps Kylo ( even after she saw him kill Han Solo ).

Helps Luke

Speaks fluent Robot.

Speaks fluent Wookie.

Speaks Alien (bb8 scene).

Instant best friends with *ALL OF THE CHARACTERS* including Kylo and Snoke

*everybody likes her instantly for no reason*.

Knows how to swim even though she comes from a dessert planet..

Knows how to pilot a ship on her first try better than trained Tie fighter pilots..

Knows mechanic more than Han and Chewie. 3 times.

Knows how to use the Force pull *WITHOUT ANY TRAINNING*.

Knows how to use a lightsaber.

Knows how to use mind control.

Beats Kylo Ren in a mind probe fight.

Beats Kylo Ren in a physical fight.

Beats Kylo Ren in a moral fight.

Beats Luke *a fully trained jedi* in a physical fight.

Beats Luke *a jedi master* in a moral fight.

Beats Snoke guards.

Fights better than Kylo and saves him (snoke guards).

Is saved deux ex machina style twice at a moment were the hero should face his greatest challenge alone - Abbyss, Death and Return).

Gives orders to Chewbacca ( two times war hero, old enough to be her grandfather).

Gets to keep the millenium falcon ( #wookielivesmatter guys ).

Moves millions of huge rocks out of the way.

Yoda kisses her ass for no reason.

Cave learning: she doesn´t need any parents. She is alone and thats is ok. All she needs is herself..

Knows everything that was on the sacrate Jedi books *that she just found out about it*.

No temptation nor fear to go to the Dark Side *booooring*.

Even though she was abandon as a child she has all of this inexplainable extraordinary abilities except that she is extremely fragile, naive and immature.... *THAT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE !!!*.

*She is the worst character ever created.*

Nope. Not even a little bit. Worst character ever? That's the most ridiculous thing I've read on a SW board, and that's saying a lot given the levels of garbage I've waded through around the PT time.

"Abandoned as a child." That means she will have difficulty forming relationships, not that her survival skills will be negatively impacted, or her ability to empathize is surgically removed. She is a survivalist. She is also is a dreamer. She dreams of a place far away from her tortured existence, surviving on hope some times. That's what makes her so strong. Hope.

As for the rest, it's utter nonsense. It's brushing in broad strokes to paint the picture of a Mary Sue whilst ignoring what actually happens in the story.

By all means, continue on. But, I know a Mary Sue when I see one (having an author wife helps with that)-Rey is not one.

Or, perhaps, find another facet of SW to enjoy, since these characters are not enjoyable for you. It's a big galaxy, you know.
