Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

I don't know.... I almost think I see a blue lightsaber beam as well....but I could be wrong.

Hmmm.... Perhaps a theory...

In the original drafts of Revenge of the Jedi, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Anakin all return to the flesh from "the netherworld." If we are seeing a blue saber here, could this be the return of some or all of our fallen heroes? Chronologically, every iteration of a Force ghost we've seen has become more corporeal. From Qui-Gon's "Anakin! No!" in AOTC to Obi-Wan's ghostly form that couldn't interact with anything in TESB to his being able to sit in ROTJ to Yoda in TLJ basically being there other than a blue glow that lessens as the scene goes on. What if this is the endgame? What if Palpatine's twisted way of immortality is far more pure when dealing with the living force? What if Palpatine was wrong and immortality can be learned from a Jedi?

Just a thought.

Hm..... That would be an interesting twist.

Thanks to my stupid curiosity, I'm fairly certain I know more about this movie than I want to know. Considering how much trailers ruin movies these days, I'm cool with the marketing keeping things secret.
Same here. I'll wait until Dec 20th to find out, instead of hoping for a leak.
It also lost the audience. When the person running the show wears shirts that say "the Force is female,"
Which was a campaign shirt completely unrelated to SW. Sorry, that argument holds no water. It also didn't "lose the audience" since "the audience" isn't a monolithic mass who shares the same opinions. Give that my daughters love Rey, that I see kids at Wal-Mart buying Rey stuff, and parents supporting it, I'm confident the "audience" hasn't been lost.
Rey is a Mary Sue.
Nope.
The leaks for TFA were about 70% accurate. I think that much of what is in the trailer is referenced in the leaks. However, I'm not going to suggest they're 100% accurate at this time. Rey holding a dagger might not mean exactly what the leaks suggest they do. They might. We just don't know.

There's a lot of imagery in the trailer that matches details from the leaks, but context is key and so we can't make any judgments about whether or not the narrative that we've heard about works until we see the movie.
I agree. Context is key and I can't wait for this context to come out. So glad I took time off for Christmas.
This topic has re-affirmed what I already know...... This topic is filled with way too many small minded, toxic men with ego issues.

I love the new characters, and I'll be sad knowing this will probably be the last movie with them. But if the send off is good, I can deal with. :)

Now, about the trailer.... Is it me, or is there a face reflected in Rey's eyes in the final shot??
I love these new characters. I care way more about them than I ever did for Padme, Anakin or Obi-Wan.

For the longest time, my top two favorite SW characters were Palpatine and Anakin Skywalker, but after TLJ, Kylo Ren joined them in my "Top 3", and I'm planning on cosplaying as Kylo for next year's Star Wars Celebration (my first-ever Celebration event), so to say that "no-one cares about the Sequel Trilogy characters" is a patently false generalization.

Agreed. I care far more about what is going on in these three movies than I EVER did in the prequels, and I say that as someone whose butt was in the theater seat for the original Star Wars. And my 8 year old daughter LOVES Rey and went as her for Halloween one year.

Wow, that was an awesome trailer.
Not a ton of details, but lots of interesting teasers.
The dialogue from Palpatine makes it sound like he's been manipulating things from the behind the scenes. It will be interesting exactly what his endgame is.
I'm assuming C-3PO saying goodbye is somehow connected to his eyes turning red in the other trailer.
It looks like this is going to be the best looking Star Wars movie yet.

I want my son to know that heroes can come in any form. I love this trilogy because it shows just that. If that's seen by some as a sort of "liberal SJW agenda", so be it.

At this point I don't really need to know plot details, I'm getting enough out of the trailers as is to know that I want to see this.

Wow. To each their own I guess.
Absolutely. The PT isn't for me (even though I saw all at the theaters). They are beautiful to look at but the characters are difficult to engage for me. For others, it's different.

Here's my point-no fan should feel obligated to watch the ST if it's not enjoyable. I went and saw the PT as much as an experience with my friends for the films. They are definitely not films I enjoy watching solo. The ST, on the other hand, I'll watch by myself no problem. It's a whole different experience.

If Star Wars films are no longer enjoyable I would highly recommend to stop watching them. There is so much SW material out there to get in to that I would be fine (and was, since I didn't watch the Clone Wars) with other material.

Ever seen ROTJ? It's kinda like that.
I don't know, it looks pretty different to me from what I've seen.
So what exactly makes you think this?
Yes, TFA did follow a lot of the same plot points from A New Hope, but I though The Last Jedi was very different from The Empire Strikes Back. Since it ended with things in a very place from TESB, I don't really see how The Rise of Skywalker can be that close to Return of the Jedi.
