Enterprise bridge....2nd turbolift?

I am a bit confused as to why there's a corridor behind the rear consoles. Is there anything IN there? Or is it simply a quick way to walk from one turbolift to the other? (Why they'd need THAT is not an obvious thing either...)

And that 30° offset on the old blueprints drove me bonkers.

I always ignored the claim that the bridge was offset. Why would they have a turbolift shaft exposed like that on the outside of the saucer? I always thought that maybe it was a docking port of some type that could be accessed via turbolift.

The top deck doesnt exist on this Enterprise. The bridge is at the front of the teardrop rather than a dome above, meaning there's space for stuff behind.

FWIW, I rewatched TMP yesterday (first time on my new TV) and FJ's TOS bridge blueprints with the offset are clearly shown from several angles when V'ger probes Spock's console prior to kidnapping Illia. Not that graphics mean much.

To make it slightly smaller. Could have just made the set smaller to start off with.

The bridge dome is still 2 decks, At least on the 3D model in the eaglemoss books.

And the bridge itself is on the top deck.

Many fan blueprints over the years have had a similar outer ring, just without the access via the missing station. Ostensibly most have considered it access to the back of the bridge consoles for servicing.

I always thought it was just a storage space for a lift, so there was always one available to the bridge.
It also could have been the way in for the lifts when originally placed.
The top of it could have a hatch for easy insertion and removal, instead of having to dismantle one inside the shaft when it needs repair.

Which is why the beeping noises are so loud, of course.

We see fancy corridor maps of the ship on the assorted monitors, perhaps the most prominently on the briefing room wall displays. I wonder if any thought was put into those? Any views of the top decks?

There has to be direct access to the corridors and rooms surrounding the bridge.

Perhaps the back of the consoles are urinals. And everyone on the bridge can hear when someone uses them:ack:
They must be these kind of urinals then...

Since it's not just guys working on the bridge.
