Dune Part 2 2023 (24, 25, 26...)

The 1984 movie had some weird tie-in merchandise. I suspect Lynch tries not to recall that stage in his career, nor would he likely care how the current Villeneuve iteration is marketed.

Hahaha, I just saw it pointed out on twitter, the Lego Dune logo is mini figure hands, that's so clever

Yeah, I remember seeing something on TV today about the movies opening in theatres this weekend and I sighed thinking "I could have been seeing Dune this weekend."

Le sigh.

Yeah, considering the very long road to getting the first film and even the nail-biting wait for the sequel's greenlighting, I'm just happy it's coming. I can wait a little longer.

I have to assume that any delay in greenlighting part 2 was a sort of formality, for lack of a better word. After investing so much in the whole thing I feel like release of a part 2 was a foregone conclusion, unless part 1 had somehow turned out to be a complete artistic trainwreck and embarrassment.

I'm so hoping they do continue. They've got great actors for the two big characters of the series. Marvel's proven that a fanbase will stick with you through a loooong series. They've got a ready-made storyline. They just gotta do it.

From everything I knew at the time it was NOT a formality. Chief evidence of this was that they didn't just roll from the first film to the second. Part 1 was considered a risk and not a foregone conclusion.

Part 2 is still a risk and it will be interesting to see how it is received.

It will be something to watch especially with how packed next year is with movies. Smash hit or disappointment or treading water.

Although if the strike continues maybe more and more stuff will be pushed back to cover an empty 2025.

It's only a risk if you want to go further in the storyline or spin off other things like the Bene Gesserit show. I am very confident that the second part will be as brilliant as the first but if the general audience doesn't feel the same and it doesn't make enough money i will be content with having a sci fi masterpiece that at least concludes the story of the first book.
