Dune Part 2 2023 (24, 25, 26...)

fuck you''re quick :)

came in to post the link.

I was on lunch and scrolling social media when it popped up. Was like 20 min after it posted that I watched it, I watched it twice then posted it.

Some fun impressive money shots, I can see why they wanted them in the trailer, get that audience in, still would have been a better experience to see them in theater though.

"This prophecy is how they enslave us!"

I got chills from this trailer...and I loved seeing how the film demonstrates Paul using the Voice.

Meanwhile, this tweet claims that Japanese film regulator "The Film Classification and Rating Organization" says Part II is 166 minutes long, making it Villeneuve's longest film to date.

Maaaaaaaaan.. excuse me while i wipe away some moisture from my eyes ( and of course store it for re-use, you can never know when you need a drink).

It doesn't matter that i know the story inside out, seeing this is just so awesome. Time hopefully flies until March 1st and i can't wait for the cinema hall to darken down and the movie to begin.

Part of me wishes they hadn't given so much away yet, but man.... am I hyped right now. The moment Paul thundered that 'Silence!'....

It's a delicate balance when making trailers. You want the audience to go wow but not risk revealing important plot points. Since we all know the story we are able to place every scene in context but people who didn't have any contact with Dune before this version only get some fast cut pretty action scenes and if they have seen the first movie it's not a stretch to extrapolate where the story is going, so the trailer just confirmed there'll be some huge ass battles.

For fans like us there's still many open questions, chief amongst them the absence of Alia in the trailers so far and the complete lack of genetic memory so far ( the key point of the Kwisatz Haderach project) so they haven't laid out all of the cards in the trailers ( i guess).

Was reading today about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

apparently it will have a free Dune related DLC.

guess this might be one’s chance to fly a thopter unless they’re real gonna go obscure and you get to fly a carry-all and rescue a spice harvester :)

not the first time they’ve done this.

a free dlc allowed you to fly the Darkstar from Top Gun: Maverick.

So, did my rewatch of Dune in anticipation of the upcoming second part. One of the things that struck me was the level of detail and worldbuildng of this film. There are so many little touches, brief shots on various props, or set dressing, that just make this world feel alive.

It's unfortunate that Leto's time was so short. The film does such a good job of capturing the feel of the book for me, that I don't fully care about the characters but am absolutely all in on the outcome of this battle between these Great Houses and their allies. It's an interesting subversion of my usual enjoyment of a story, and takes on a little more of a Shakespearean quality, in the tragic telling.

One interesting difference between this version and the 1984 film is how much the Villeneuve version leans in on the character Jamis. He's not even in the Lynch version ( unless you count the 'Alan Smithee' extended cut ). In the new version Jamis shows up in the film's opening sequence, not to mention appearing in Paul's visions before they have even met ( where he is framed as a friend and teacher ).

Still have my fingers crossed for a scene depicting Jamis' funeral where Paul openly admits what it means to take a life. For me it's pivotal scene for Paul and hope Villeneuve has included it in the movie.

Only a little over 2 months to go. i hope time flies ( and by all accounts it currently does for me since i'm so busy with a new job).

Indeed. I was surprised by how often Jamis' showed up and the intensity of their first meeting.

so... are the new Dune movies going to have Alia in them at all or not?

Alia was important in the old Dune books.
