Also worst trek series still=better than most other series out there.
The difference is for the first time on Trek, such a race was actually treated with respect instead of patronizing. That attitude occurred in early episodes, but fortunately the Starfleet characters mostly got past it.
Religion does have negative aspects, and what I like about DS9 is that it showed those along with the positive aspects. It showed that people like Winn are willing to feign faith in order to attain political power, but it also showed people like Bareil that used their faith for good. Overall the show was pretty balanced and took a more mature stance on the subject than TNG which tended to just dismiss religion entirely. However I do believe religion has a lot of negatives (specifically to outagroups, and dissenters) and personally DS9 showed a lot of those negatives in a favorable light.
I like Babylon 5, and it certainly did serialised storytelling better than DS9, but there are areas where I felt DS9 surpassed it. For example, the heroes on B5 were never put into a place where they had to question their principles, there was no Pale Moonlight moment. More importantly, the show lacked nuanced villains. The Shadows were pretty much nameless CGI creatures, and President Clark was a joke in his lack of development. The only proper recurring villains the show had were Bester, Lord Refa, and Mordin, and none of them were humanised to the extent that Dukat or Winn were. DS9 gave plenty of screen-time to the the villains and that allowed them to develop in interesting and unexpected ways. Take Damar, a low-level Cardassian thug when he was introduced but by the final season he was an important, multi-faceted character and it was all because DS9 chose to spend the time developing its villains.Just felt Bab5 dealt with the same issues a lot better than DS9 but with less production values and acting chops.
As for the Bajorans, ANY other Trek episode or series would've simply dismissed them as stupid and needing to be saved from the Prophets rather than allowing any sort of hint that good things could come from their faith and that these were intelligent, reasonable people.
I have seen enough over the years to know that everytime I turn & try to watch it on it makes me turn it off again because it stinks that badHard to judge DS9 as being worst ever when you openly admit you haven't seen hardly any of it.
The writers are right you don't need a fancy ship to explore...
Non sequitur. Your facts are uncoordinated. If the writer were right about not needing a ship then why after 2 season did the suddenly add the defiant. They realized they made a big mistake that was hurting the rating of the show. When major changes are made to revamp a series such as adding a new ship, or hiring a actor from a previous series (Michael Dorn) to reprise their character role (Worf) as permanent cast member addition that is a sign the a show is flagging.
DS9 is the only Star Trek series in history to have done this.Adding, or replacing a cast member with one from a previous series is & remains a DS9 exclusive.
...there is more than one kind of exploration, exploration of humanity and interacting with all the various alien cultures that travel to the station as opposed to the tired planet of the week setup.Oh puke.
I had enough of the touch-feely exploration of the inner depths of our feeling from watching TNG (why didn't they just phase Deanna Tori into sub atomic particles).
I will speak my opinion anytime I want. I don't back down to bullies who try to get me to censor myself, or who try to shame me from posting my thoughts, or those that make any sort of threats to me.Baiting other posters is the definition of trolling. You've stated your intention to bait others, and to be intolerant, dismissive, and rude, merely because "turnabout is fair play."
Good luck with that. If you get warned for it, don't say you weren't warned.
...wait, that's not right.
You & the trolls on here aren't my first that I have dealt with, and you certainly won't be the last. This "Good Ol' Boys Club" that is here on the Trek BBS of the intolerant, are dismissive, rude, and condescending doesn't impress me in the least bit, nor does it intimidate me at all.
I can argue with a 100 pieces of evidence that Star Trek is better than Star Wars.![]()
So would I, and yet I stand by my love for the SW prequels. Love knows no reason.![]()
Really Besides Species 8472 who did not get nearly enough play. There were really no major new aliens of note. Also overuse of the Borg.
