DS9 on blu ray?

I think the demand IS actually there- but the margin of profit vs cost of manufacture, doesn't interest CBS/Paramount.

If they weren't so greedy as to gouge Trekkies over the years with overpriced DVD sets, they would have more accurate data for demand.

Paramount thought, "Those nerds will pay anything for Trek". Then they put no effort in decent packaging for DS9 & VOY as added insult.

And the slipping ratings of the 90's doesn't mean people wouldn't like those series in their collection at an affordable cost.

So by attempting to gouge Trekkers in the short term over price point, Paramount/CBS have screwed themselves longterm in future sales in future formats.

Yup, it's a lot more affordable now, yet sales are still poor and well below expectation. DS9 never beat TNG for viewership, merchandise, media sales. So it would be a major loss to Paramout/CBS when they have the movies and new series to spend their money on.

The cost of transferring all that film is pretty exorbitant and will remain so even if it ever becomes feasible to redo all the CGI in seasons 6 and 7 cheaply but to exacting standards.
Paramount never even bothered to restore Star Treks 3-10 for blu ray, rather they "digitally remastered" them. It's a shame CBS didn't see more reward for their effort with TNG, though I'd think they would get a little boost if they ever released the blu rays in one big box around the holidays.

I managed to get TNG blu-ray for £75 which would have been around US$120. Which I felt was more of a reasoanble price for a 25+ year old TV show.

Most 25 year old shows don't get multi-million dollar restorations before being rereleased on a new format.

True, but it all comes down to retail cost I think in the UK they where rginally selling the individual seasons something like £55 which is getting on for US$90. Sorry but that's taking the consumer for a ride had they been say around the £30 (~ U$50) mark I might have been tempted to go the indvidual season route rather than wait for the box set. And once I had waited a couple of years for the box set to come, I could easily wait a few more months till it came down to a more attractive price.

True some of the markup is down to the retailer.

Perhaps Who1 meant a US box set release? Not that a US release would be any different content-wise, and it would also probably be more expensive, and the packaging would probably be worse. LOL...

If the packaging is anything like the Enterprise box set I got, it can't be any worse.

And you guys are so stuck on Blu-Ray, thinking it is the only thing that matters when really for CBS any profit the make from TNG-R and TOS-R on Blu/DVD is pennies---a drop in the bucket.

There will be DS9 and Voyager in HD, but it won't be decided based solely on how well Blu-Rays and DVD's sell. Right now, every time someone streams an episode of TNG-R in HD from Amazon or Hulu for free, CBS is probably making more on the episode than from Blu-Ray sales, due to selling commercial time, and the advertisers are probably paying a lot more per stream now that the show is HD.

Not to mention sales to TV stations.

The further away they move from the TNG project, the less likely it is to happen. CBS, right now, has 355 episodes of Trek in HD. Plus, a new TV series on the way. There probably is a question of "do we need anything more in HD?"

BillJ, I hear you. But since the new Trek series was announced, and since a new Trek show will be the flagship, and since streaming is also about finding similar shows and binging on those as well, and since they're bridging generations behind the scenes for the new series, I wouldn't throw the possibility of some sort of quick and dirty HD-ification of DS9 and VOY produced to coincide with the re-launch of their streaming channel and the premiere of the new Trek series (something of the extent, or lack thereof, described on some of the recent pages of this thread). While there may not be very much value in promoting "DS9 now streaming in HD..." there would be value in promoting "Now...stream EVERY episode of Trek...EVERY Trek film...in glorious HD...exclusively on CBS All Access! And watch new episodes of Star Trek: Macbeth...right now!" ;)
