Honestly, at this point even if remastering DS9 turned out to be as "easy" as remastering TNG, it wouldn't happen because CBS doesn't believe anyone will buy them, based on previous BD sales. Not to mention their current focus on the new show is way more of a priority than remastering a 20 year old show that was never a ratings winner to begin with.
You're not wrong there, but there is maybe one way it could work - DS9 HD exclusive to CBS All Access.
I don't know about you, but that would get me paying $10 a month. And you'd save money on printing blu rays (at least initially). If they only did a taster set like they did with TNG and put it on All Access, I'm sure you'd see a noticeable uptick in membership.
Frankly, it seems to me that the CGI issues might have been overblown. Stuff like Odo's morph wouldn't be that complicated, they could even reuse the software they used for TNG Ariel's blob monster. The same with phaser shots and transporter effects.
The Big Space Battles could simply be upscaled or rerendered, as it seems many file have survived.
All of this could be done without anyone leaving CBS Digital's offices.
In fact the biggest cost would be sending an army of people into the salt mines to recover all the film negatives and elements, rescan, recomposite and reedit them.
That's what costs real money, I would say. Money that CBS believes it would not recoup.
In the end, CGI sequences are few and far between. Live action sequences and pratical effects, on the other hand, abound. Getting those up to standard would be a monumental task, as it was with TNG.
I still live in hope, but prospects seem quite dim...
AFAIK there is already a software at work that automatically uses the original cuts to find the same footage in the scanned material and cut/edits them. Only the missing pieces have to be handled manually.
You won't believe what shitty show is coming to DVD from Paramount & CBS that makes me cringe and now wish that both companies could put DS9 on Blu-Ray now:

No one here is against Deep Space Nine (or Voyager) on Blu-ray.
There are definitely people here who clearly could care less whether it comes to blu or not and are more than happy to pop in and caustic comment/meme about how it's never going to happen. I'm not saying every person who says "it's not going to happen" falls into that category, but it doesn't take a skilled detective to see that there are absolutely DS9 haters among us. And that's fine. Whatever fires your phaser. But let's not kid ourselves here.
I think you're making assumptions you want to make. I don't see anyone here that is against DS9 getting put on Blu-ray. Hell, I believe we'll see the proposed Star Trek II from the 1970's made before we see DS9 on Blu. But if they gave DS9 the same treatment they gave TNG, I would definitely be buying the early seasons of the show.
My key to riches. Build a machine where I can travel across dimensions, find the dimension where Star Trek II was made and bring all the film elements back to this dimension!

DS9 will never see a "remastered" version--at least not in the TOS/TNG sense. However, I wouldn't be too surprised if, as a selling point of CBSAA, they offer "enhanced" or pseudo-HD versions of VOY/DS9 on their streaming service that are of significantly higher quality than those currently on Netflix or Amazon.
This is coming more and more of a thing I've noticed with older shows on Netflix that never saw a true HD edition. I don't really know how they do it, but I assume there most be some filtering program that masks compression and interlacing and does some kind of slight internal resolution increase. I suspect this can be done extremely cheaply if there's an original digital source, as it can be done in automated batches. But, like I said, I don't know much about that stuff.

I picked up the Blu-ray's with seamless branching. The effects actually hold up pretty well in 1080p.
Is there any truth to the rumors that part of the issue with DS9 HD/BluRay conversion stems from some unusual terms in Terry Farrell's contracts? Her former Representatives were leftovers from when she was a high fashion model, and there was some stuff put in there that was leftover from her modelling days. Something that would force CBS/Paramount to renegotiate with those Ex-Agents in order to release the conversion? I've heard this a number of times over the years and am curious if anyone knows if it is true? (and for the record the problem from what I heard is Not Ms. Farrell herself who remains on very good terms with Paramount. The problem lies with her former Agency who she literally has no control over.)
