DS9 on blu ray?

My son said, "Well, let's get 'Enterprise' next! Maybe enough sales of that series will spark a DS9-R." I told him many fans feel that way and even the Okudas have hinted that may get CBS to remaster the lot if everyone buys TNG-R, but who knows? That's been batted about earlier in this thread quite eloquently.
Never hurts to hope. :)

Right now it looks that way. It seems ridiculous that CBS wouldn't see enough money in keeping the series viable for the future, but if they don't think the audience is there...it's just sad.

Its hard to believe with all the garbage that is given Bluray release by studios-TV shows & movies- that Deep Space Nine is a no-go.

They should just do Season 1 as a trial balloon

Most of the shows released on Bluray aren't actual remasters like they did for TNG or TOS. The costs are fall less. What people want, is DS9 and VOY done like TNG. And that costs not only a truckload of money, but a f***load of it.

So, honestly, not that hard to believe really.

There's definitely work that can still be done on DS9 and VOY, even if it is only a color regrading and a touch up, plus releasing the SD source tapes to Blu Ray would elimate DVD compression (which would be an immediate increase in visual fidelity in itself; even if, again, it wouldn't be to the same level as TNG-R). Both shows could still be made to look a little bit better than what we've got, albeit in a much more 'budget-conscious' way than the TNG-R project.

For example, I was watching VOY: "Year Of Hell Part 1" the other night, and I found myself driven to distraction when, 22 minutes into the episode, an entire scene goes on with what looks like a base-level scratch to the film emulsion on the left hand side of the screen, which only disappears after the scene changes. Things like that could be fixed up with a digital scan and retouch even of the SD source material, which I presume would be the best case scenario for a DS9 or VOY 'remaster' at this point.

I don't know how likely even that would be, though. On some level, if all you're going to do is 'fiddle at the edges' on the existing thing, then it's almost not worth doing at all... :(

The sad thing (good at the same time) is I bought all three seasons of TOS, seven of TNG and four of Enterprise to do my part to get to what I really wanted (DS9 and VOY). I was never really a fan of the shows.

Now, I love TOS, TNG and ENT is okay... but now I STILL can't get DS9 and VOY... the shows that made me a Star Trek fan in the first place.

Maybe for streaming not even close to good enough for blu ray.

Its a shame that we won't get ds9 or vgr in HD but I guess we will have to get used to it.

early sales seemed to be good. Kind of sad really. A lot of people..even trekkies didnt understand exactly what the difference was with the bluray.

Your statement makes no real sense. How could early sales be good if no one understood what they were buying?

I think the age of physical media declining coupled with a high price point and maybe that TNG isn't aging all that well, contributed to lackluster sales. Me? I quit buying after season five as the quality of the show was in steep decline. Though I did pick up the "All Good Things..." standalone release. I think those were another piece to declining sales.

Im saying the eager, knowing fans bought them early then the the other fans didn't keep the ball rolling.

But the fans who were buying early dropped out in a major way as well. The $64 Million Dollar question is why?

I came late to the TOS-R and TNG-R BRD party. I bought TOS new for a very reasonable price from Amazon itself. Still collecting TNG, but sometimes used, sometimes new, depends on the price. I'm not going to shell out $75 per season for TNG-R. As mentioned above, definitely ENT is next, but again, at reasonable prices: new when I can get it at a good price, otherwise used. I know this doesn't exactly help 100%, but it's better than nothing.

I don't really care about VOY unless it was really cheap, I recently sold the entire series on DVD to Half Price Books. But of course, DS9 is what I'm really looking for anyway. I'm hanging on to my DVDs until/if ever it's on BRD, despite looking pretty bad on HD TV.

It's funny how everyone is complaining about the price. Remember how much it used to cost for one video tape with just two episodes?

Yup, I sure do. But that was the market then vs. what the market is now. Star Trek has always been overpriced vs. the current market.

Best Buy, right? I saw it for that price, too yesterday. I'm awaiting season 6, which was $29.99 new from second spin, despite the company's name. Then we'll look into getting season 7 and on to Enterprise.
