Doug Jones almost-confirms Starfleet Academy is set in the same era as Discovery

It will come down to the story and the characters. They have the props, the sets and the set up for the Academy series built in to the show. Like previous shows that lead in to other shows, taking something shown previously and exploring it. It make sense to me.

Call me crazy (and maybe I'm wrong) but isn't the 32nd century incredibly unpopular?? I know no one that actually likes it. Why base another series there?? Put it after Picard surely??
They already have 32nd century sets, costumes and CG assets already set up in Toronto, which makes it easier and more convenient than Picard era, where all that would have to be moved from California.
It's the same as any other era in Star Trek, but with slightly different badges and uniforms.
And ships have floating nacelles.

It probably doesn’t help that I just found them generally unenjoyable, the last 3 episodes of S4 were awesome though.

I think the current premise of Discovery is good.

I just think the show takes a scatter gun approach and the execution is terrible every time. The whole time travel Armin Tamzarin thing was really embarrassing.

I specifically want to continue to see more of the 32nd century — that “bleak” period where the Federation has rejuvenated itself and is growing and exploring once again (as opposed to the “golden age” of the 25th century with its outright war crimes department! Though I’d watch Legacy too).

We can only hope 32nd century confirms that Section 31 remains active!

Normally I wouldn’t buy an institution lasting that long — but Starfleet itself did, so whatever. I would hope S31’s been replaced by something better by the 32nd century — but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still around and Kovich is its head.

I hope Section 31 is long since dissolved and its members arrested. Then again, I favor the, "S31 is Cerberus from Mass Effect, not MI6."

A complete 180 in 90 minutes. Even around here, that must be a record.

I assumed the first post would be assumed to be sarcastic because "why would anyone want that? It's terrible it's lasted a two centuries."

Then realized it might not be immediately obvious.

It definitely was not. In text form, sarcasm is not obvious. Emoticons, irony punctuation, etc. are very helpful.

Or, gifs. Things to make one laugh.

And if Section 31 is rounded up and shut down, something else will take its place.
