Hey guys, longtime lurker here, I was recently re-watching Star Trek II and i noticed that the computer banks (Ge-635) used to raise the Enterpise's shields actually do appear on set, I caught a quick glimpse of them on the upper level of engineering on the Reliant when the Enterprise destroys Reliant's port nacelle and I managed to grab a couple screencaps:

Actually that‘s not the case anymore, @137th Gebirg. There are no restrictions on posting images for new posters. @Commodore Miles just didn‘t input the correct URLs in the post. You need to click the share button in the lower righthand corner of your image on Flickr, chose the BBCode option and copy only the part inside the image tags [ img ] [ /img ] and paste it into your post. Aha! So that's the "Excelsior" corner. Very clever use of the set, and of a wide angle lens to make such a small space seem huge.
I love these renders and all the new views you've given us of this classic set. The lighting effects on the warp power conduit are truly gorgeous!

That idea is still on my radar. I've actually spent enough time away from the bridges now (a year this month!) that I wouldn't mind revisiting them in the near future to do a Phase II variant, or the much-requested TVH variant (still kind of hindered by lack of reference for the control panels though)I just ran into someone's (inaccurate) versions of the TV refit bridge and engine room sets, which does make me want to see those interiors properly modeled someday.
Yep! The wall the cadets are standing in front of in TWOK is the same wall Scotty walks in front of in TSFS. I'll have to take a video soon, as the warp core effect looks much better in motion than it comes off in static images, although it's still not exactly like it is in the film, due to my limitations with creating such an effect.I love these renders and all the new views you've given us of this classic set. The door is actually here:It's literally a door to nowhere. The door doesn't connect to the corridor set at all.

This shot to typifies the bland TV-like cinematography of TSFS. "Hey, let's shoot perpendicular to a blank wall!" is literally the laziest camera setup possible. This angle tells us nothing. It certainly doesn't suggest a suped-up starship. There are way more interesting angles they could have shot. It's as if Nimoy said, "well, there's a door here, let's have Styles come in from it. So put the camera over there," as opposed to really looking at the set and figuring out a more interesting shot that would suggest this giant new monstrosity or tell us anything about her captain. Meh.
Better if they'd have had Scotty on his way out, hears his name called, looks up, and Styles is looking down on him from the deck above. This would visually establish that Styles sees himself as being on top of the world, and that he and his ship are better than/"above" the old Enterprise. And in doing a "dirty OTS" (over his shoulder) down at Scotty you'd make the engineer look small and suggest the challenge he's up against.
I agree. Would've been much more dramatic. I also agree with the "bland TV-like cinematography of TSFS". It has a less dramatic feel to most of the shots. EXCEPT for the space shots. Most of those are top notch (emphasis on most). Actually, and I talk with my buddy about this often, it's as if they spent ALL their budget on the new ships/craft we see in the film. We get the BoP, The Excelsior, the Oberth, Spacedock, and the merchant ship, all of which were great designs and went on to be used in countless Trek productions going forward. But most of the principal cinematography is.....just....meh. Almost every set onboard tne Enterprise sets looks as if they were lit cheaply, harshly, and quickly as opposed to their very soft, dim and dramatic representations in the previous two films.
