Donny's Refit Enterprise Interiors (Version 2.0)

So, my SSD (solid state hard drive, for those unaware) which contained my operating system and most of my modeling/texturing programs crapped out on me over the weekend. Luckily, all my project files are stored securely on a 4 TB hard drive and also backed up safely online, so no worries there. It's just going to take a while to get all my programs re-installed with their myriad plugins, tools, etc. before I can resume work.
Sorry to hear about the SSD but glad that you practice solid backup hygiene. Learned that lesson the hard way several years ago!

On another (much more pleasant) note, someone special has entered my life in the past couple of weeks whom I really enjoy spending time with. Therefore, I'll probably be spending less time with my various projects for a while while I'm being present with my new lady.
Life is almost always more pleasant when you've got someone to share it with. Mazel! We'll see you sometime in the new year.

Oh of course not. A prerequisite for dating me is understanding and accepting how passionate I am about my hobbies and how much time I require to spend with them, which she is actually in awe of. :luvlove:

I'm very happy for you Donny, finding someone special is a gift. I do hope she is a Star Trek fan though.

On a different note, have you checked out Quadremesher for 3ds max? I think it's a game changer.

Great news.

Ian

She's not a Trekkie per se, but she does like Trek and her family grew up watching lots of TNG. Besides, I don't mind if a potential partner isn't a huge Trek fan, as long as they aren't disgusted by the mention of the series ;)

I haven't yet, but thanks for mentioning it! That looks super useful.

And since my annual holiday trip home is rapidly approaching, this probably means I won't get anything significant done until after the New Year.

Just a little update! I'm still excited to continue work on the TMP/TWOK engineering sets, I just won't be working like crazy on them like I was before. Cheers, everyone!
Sorry to hear about the SSD but it sounds like you have everything well in hand there.

Congrats on the new relationship! Have fun and enjoy... we’ll still be here when you come back. :)

Yeah, the mister rolls his eyes so loudly I can hear metallic scraping sounds whenever Star Trek is mentioned .

But on the other hand, he shows off my stuff to his Trekkie colleagues, and my art time is when he plays canasta (which I find dreadfully boring), so win-win-win.

That's splendid news and just in time for Christmas, too!
About the lady I mean, not the SSD. :alienblush:
Although since you were planning to take a break anyway, perhaps this is the perfect time for it to crash?

I might almost say there's a yin-yang aspect to the whole business...if I were human :vulcan:

But enough babbling, Merry Yuletide to all! :guffaw:

I too am married to a non Trekkie, but she nods along indulgently whenever I bring the subject up ;)

Sorry to hear about your SSD Donny. It was about this time 3 years ago though that my main external HD (the first and only Seagate I'll ever touch) crapped out on me and took a lot of my photography & music/movies with it - moved back to WD for that and added another one in for redundancy, so fingers crossed.

Also, congrats on finding that special someone! I can relate as I found my own 6 months ago and I've since had less and less time to work on my own blogging and stuff. It's definitely worth it though!

My only lost HD was a Western Digital external. Right now, what I do is just mirror my folders, including my desktop, with OneDrive, so if I save something on my computer, it's also online. Now, maybe I'm naïve, but I think cloud storage backs their storage up as well, so I shouldn't lose anything in the cloud, and even if I did, it'd be incredibly unlikely to lose both my cloud storage and local storage at the same time.

I have a 2TB backup hard drive. It's in perfect condition; since it's still sealed in the box and sitting on my shelf for the past three months!! :p

And congrats on your new special friend, @Donny!!

How secure is OneDrive? I've been thinking about backing up my documents that way, but I'm unsure about its security/privacy. (A lot of what I work on is CBS's intellectual property and sometimes involves confidential info, though maybe I'm being overcautious about that.) Also, how does "mirroring" work? Is that something you can set it to do automatically?

I'm no expert on the security of these things, I just figure they keep up with most of the industry standards, such as they are, since they are major player. As far as the mirroring, when I set it up, I just did it through File Explorer, not through OneDrive setting directly. Don't know if that's a good way or not.

We use OneDrive for our company. It's quite secure (provided you use an excellent password). Their data centers are very secure. We had to go to a local one to see for ourselves. Passport needed, prior approval to visit. 12 foot concrete and steel fences with cameras and razor wire. We use OD for our financial stuff.

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a happy holiday! I'm back at working on the Refit Engineering set here and there when I can, but I must admit that the hustle and bustle of the holidays and getting back to work and juggling my new relationship haven't left me much time. But, I've gotten stuff done nonetheless!

I was unable to visit Trekbbs the last week (the website would freeze and hang on both my home PC, work PC, and smartphone), so I meant to post these shots earlier. Did anyone else experience this issue?

Anyway, I've finished the horizontal intermix shaft of the Refit. I've approached the point in which it branches off towards the nacelles differently than I did the last time I rendered this set. I've kept everything simple and clean, as I feel over-complicating this non-canon section wouldn't jive with the rest of the set. Keep in mind that I'm doing the TMP version of the set first (in details and lighting), and will then do a proper TWOK version with all the added details and brighter, more neutral lighting scheme.

Welcome back - a great way to start the year off, these look great :techman:

There sure is a lot of empty space in the room that the horizontal tube lives in!
I know, I know, refit aesthetics... :sigh:

I do like the way you've snuck some ceiling lights in there
