Sorry to hear about the SSD but glad that you practice solid backup hygiene. Learned that lesson the hard way several years ago!So, my SSD (solid state hard drive, for those unaware) which contained my operating system and most of my modeling/texturing programs crapped out on me over the weekend. Luckily, all my project files are stored securely on a 4 TB hard drive and also backed up safely online, so no worries there. It's just going to take a while to get all my programs re-installed with their myriad plugins, tools, etc. before I can resume work.
Life is almost always more pleasant when you've got someone to share it with. Mazel! We'll see you sometime in the new year.On another (much more pleasant) note, someone special has entered my life in the past couple of weeks whom I really enjoy spending time with. Therefore, I'll probably be spending less time with my various projects for a while while I'm being present with my new lady.
Oh of course not. She is understanding and accepting of how passionate I am about my hobbies and how much time I require to spend with them. She actually seems in awe of itThere's a twist: he got a dog! No, kidding....happy for you. Just so long as you don't have to hide your hobby to keep her interest.![]()

She's not a Trekkie per se, but she does like Trek and her family grew up watching lots of TNG. Besides, I don't mind if a potential partner isn't a huge Trek fan, as long as they aren't disgusted by the mention of the seriesI'm very happy for you Donny, finding someone special is a gift. I do hope she is a Star Trek fan though.
I haven't yet, but thanks for mentioning it! That looks super useful. On a different note, have you checked out Quadremesher for 3ds max? I think it's a game changer.

And since my annual holiday trip home is rapidly approaching, this probably means I won't get anything significant done until after the New Year.
Just a little update! I'm still excited to continue work on the TMP/TWOK engineering sets, I just won't be working like crazy on them like I was before. Cheers, everyone!
Yeah, the mister rolls his eyes so loudly I can hear metallic scraping sounds whenever Star Trek is mentionedShe's not a Trekkie per se, but she does like Trek and her family grew up watching lots of TNG. That's splendid news and just in time for Christmas, too!So, my SSD (solid state hard drive, for those unaware) which contained my operating system and most of my modeling/texturing programs crapped out on me over the weekend. I too am married to a non Trekkie, but she nods along indulgently whenever I bring the subject upYeah, the mister rolls his eyes so loudly I can hear metallic scraping sounds whenever Star Trek is mentioned.
But on the other hand, he shows off my stuff to his Trekkie colleagues, and my art time is when he plays canasta (which I find dreadfully boring), so win-win-win.
Well, probably more like fluffy spun glass to avoid melting and burning. Which are two things you definitely want to avoid at a major studio. That's hilarious, Voyagers warp core was filled with pillow stuffing.
My only lost HD was a Western Digital external. Right now, what I do is just mirror my folders, including my desktop, with OneDrive, so if I save something on my computer, it's also online. Now, maybe I'm naïve, but I think cloud storage backs their storage up as well, so I shouldn't lose anything in the cloud, and even if I did, it'd be incredibly unlikely to lose both my cloud storage and local storage at the same time.
How secure is OneDrive? I've been thinking about backing up my documents that way, but I'm unsure about its security/privacy. (A lot of what I work on is CBS's intellectual property and sometimes involves confidential info, though maybe I'm being overcautious about that.) Also, how does "mirroring" work? Is that something you can set it to do automatically?
